      Hi all,

I come to the forum a little desperate because I can't find the solution to my problem. I have searched all over the internet but it seems that nobody has ever had what is happening to me. Please if someone can help me, I would be very grateful.

I have a Raspberry pi 4B using Retropie 4.8.9 and Emulationstation V2.10.1RP, I try to install manually a theme from this site https://gitlab.com/es-de/themes/themes-list/-/blob/master/README.md#additional-themes (for example iconic-es-de-main theme), I have copied the theme in the folder /etc/emulationstation/themes after extracting the .zip and showing the hidden files, but when I select the theme in MAIN MENU - UI SETTINGS - THEME SET in EmulationStation a black background appears using letters without style... It seems as if it recognizes the theme but not all the linked files...

      Can someone please help me?

ES-DE is an entirely different EmulationStaton fork and the themes are not compatible with RetroPie's fork of EmulationStation. The missing artwork in the theme is because it's using themeing features not present in your EmulationStation installation.

Hi @mitu, thank you very much for your prompt reply! Wow, I had no idea about this.

So, at this point, what options do I have to customize the interface of my system taking into account the version of EmulationStation I have? Am I only able to install official retropie themes? Wouldn't it be possible to manually install custom themes from other sources?

Thank you very much for your time and sorry for my ignorance on this matter. I really appreciate your help

While you can install other themes, not only the ones distributed with RetroPie-Setup, there's no guarantee the theme will work with RetroPie's version of EmulationStation.

Maybe the theme description has some information about compatibility - i.e. was tested with the RetroPie fork/Recalbox fork/ES-DE or the Batocera fork of EmulationStation, but otherwise you can just find out by testing the theme yourself.
