UAE/Amiga alternative?
-
Hi,
i was wondering if there is any other Amiga emulator possible in retropie?
The UAE´s (UAE4ALL and UAE4arm) are really bad when it comes to user interface
and useability.I´ve read about "Happiga" and "Amibian" which are both special distros for Amiga emulation, but i want something inside RetroPie not a special system.
I know most of them are technically GUIs with UAE behind it, but as long as it works better then know, it´s ok for me.
My girlfriend is a amiga fan and wants to play some games, that only existed for amiga.
I personally try to avoid any of this Commodore Stuff....I had an C64 in my childhood, but when i look back this machine wasn´t the best of the class, it was just the best selling at that time. I´m happy that Commodore is gone....
Normally i try to find an port for other systems....

Personally, when emulating a PC game of this era, I always try to find an Amiga port whenever possible due to the superior graphics found in most ported titles. Of course graphics aren't everything. Are there other elements of Amiga ports that have formed your dissenting opinion?

If UAE4Arm mimics the way Xport implemented the pad mappings in his UAE port for the first XBOX some ten years and so back, it would be awesome.
For me RetroPie is a "couch business". I hate using keyboard and mouse when I just want to play...

Well, that depends on the games.... and the year of realease....
At the beginning of the 90s the PC games were way better then the amiga titles,
especially with uprising support of AdLib and the first Soundblaster and better graphics.
But in the late 80s the Amiga was, maybe together with the Atari ST, the machine with the best graphic and sound for gaming.
For example yesterday i found that on my "Defender of the Crown" CD from 2009 are the original games included! I installed the PC one (EGA Colors and PC Speaker!!!!) and than the amiga one.... That´s a difference ;-)But the games i loved are not the typical amiga games. Historical simulations like "Patrician" or strategy titles like "Civilization / Colonization" were not as good on amiga than on PC.
But maybe i´m not very fair, because maybe i have problems with Amiga becaue i never had one (switched directly from C64 to PC) and don´t understand everything about it. :-)
For me Dosbox is way easier, hardly any probem getting games up and running. But what anoyes me is the complicated way to emulate games in amiga. You have to try different kickstart roms, try different CPUs and stuff like that. And it doesn´t work very stable.
the same thing when it comes to C64 emulation.
Why is it not possible to get an emulator where you just have to throw a amiga-file at?
Like most console emulators? Amstrad CPC? -

It's an amazing emulator for sure. One of the most impressive out there. You also raise a good point about the particular time frame in question as far as port quality is concerned.

I've been using the same kickstart rom for years now and after it's set, I don't have any issues loading games myself. Loading the game's disk image and pressing reset is all that is needed most times. I do seem to remember that finding a kickstart rom that would perform well was a bit of a search though.
