      Trying to help a friend set up a retropie after they were impressed with mine. Spent the whole night trying to get the 4.0.2 image onto an SD card and it just won't work. Card has been formatted using SD Formatter and the decompressed image flashed using win32 image writer. However, the image just won't stick....the SD card remains blank. I honestly think it's an uncompatible SD card.....does that sound possible? It's a Sandisk 16Gb. My Sandisk 32 Gb works fine which seems odd?

        Have you tried an older version on the 16gb card? If that doesn't work then maybe it's not compatible.
        You can also try a smal distro of linux like raspian and see if it works.
        Other question, do you see any boot sequence when turning on the pi?

          @blairquik

          My Sandisk 16GB works just fine.

          Don't sweat it.
          When in doubt, take a BYTE out of life.

            @blairquik if it is a junk bootleg sd card it might not work. There are programs to verify the true size of sd cards

              @XVO I'll try an older image tonight and see if that works. In failing that I might just try another card. No boot up screen at switch on, just 2 red lights on the pi.

                Is the micro SD card in a "normal"SD holder? Maybe write protection is on....

                I have a class 10 16Gb Sandisk and it worked straight away.
