      When you're in EmulationStation and switch from one system to the next, is there some variable or state or something that can be queried with Python or Bash or something that would tell me what system I'm on?

        No - you would need to alter the ES code to output something.

          I didn't see anything on Attract-Mode's documentation about it there either. :(
