OK, so gdi files are designed to be burned to a gdrom. They have padding, so that when burned, all the data is on the outer rim of the disc, which makes them compress very well, but they also take up a lot of extra space when sitting on a HD (or sdcard). There used to be a way to deflate them, but I cannot find any non-complicated way to do it. So each dreamcast gdi takes up 1.2GB on my filessystem. Anyone know of a way to remove the padding on these files? Crazy taxy, Ikaruga, Marvel vs CApcom 2, and MR driller are taking up 5GB of space, and I know the actual non-zero data for each of them is less than 400000kb each.

I would google '.gdi to .cdi' this isn't really anything to do with retropie and you will lilely find more information faster by doing what I mentioned above (within the first 5 results for me anyway)

@3lric I did, , in the few converters i could get to work, when you convert the gdi to cdi, the padding goes with it or it tries to convert the 1.2gb gdi files to a self-booting ripped 700MB cdi. Most of the links are dead, or just don't work at all (they ARE mostly 10+ years old). I found a gdi -> chd converter, but so far it's only worked with ikaruga.

OK, the gdi to chd program worked, it just expects exact naming, i.e. track01.bin, track02.raw, track03.bin, etc
