Hey everyone, I am working with RetroPie 4.0 and Sselph's Scraper. What I am confused about is how I could easily put in metadata for games. For example, with ROMs like the many Pokemon hacks/mods out there that won't be scraped because TheGamesDB.Net doesn't have information for them. So, I went and found a few images for such games, added them to the "/home/pi/Retropie/roms/<SYSTEM>/images" directory and edited the respective gamelist.xml to point to them (and added descriptions while I was at it). I restarted EmulationStation, thinking it would read the information from the gamelist.xml, but still nothing showed up for them. So I was during some searching around and found a command that did make it read the image but then overwrote my description I had added to gamelist.xml.

I figured EmulationStation read the gamelist.xml for each system on boot to pull the metadata, but it seems that's not the case??? How exactly does this work?

So...my question is, can I make EmulationStation read from the gamelist.xml to pull descriptions and other info that I manually add? Is it because I'm using the Sselph Scraper rather than the built-in one?

It's a pain in the ass to input descriptions and images from EmulationStation, so I would like to open the gamelist.xml files over the network and then copy/paste info from the internet.

So, I think earlier when I was doing this I must've just been too into collecting game data and not paying attention and had EmulationStation open.
I tried inputting data maunally into gamelist.xml again (this time with EmulationStation FOR SURE closed), and upon opening up EmulationStation, my custom descriptions showed up for the ROM hacks I was working on.

If your gamelist.xml is being over written you can check to see if you have "save meta data on exit" enabled (press your start button and go to 'settings' If I recall coreectly). If you do not disable it, emulationstation will overwrite your manual XML entries. Turn it off before you jump to prompt or ssh in to edit your game list.xml. You will also need to restart in order for your manual entriesnto appear as well.
