Megaman X issues with default SNES emulator (snes9x-next)?
-
I'm attempting to play through Megaman X with my RetroPie (4.0.2) on a Raspberry Pi 3, and encountering difficulties clearing Chill Penguin. I hit a glitch where during the fight you get sent back to the tutorial level, which is evidently symptomatic of trigger the copy protection due to emulator inaccuracies.
Is there a Megaman X compatible emulator available for RetroPie? Most of them look to be based on very old versions of snes9x, which don't seem to emulate accurately enough to run Megaman X successfully (at least in this stage).

I tried the chill penguin stage now and finished it without problems. Here's my PI2 setup:
Retropie 4.0.2
Snes9x-Next (snes9x 2010 v1.52.4)
Megaman X USA Rev 1 rom.
My guess is either the version of the emulator you're using is older or maybe the protection doesn't exist on the rev1 rom. -
The copy protection is different between the 2 released versions of the cartridge, both have been dumped. Some roms are listed as Rev 1, Rev A or v1.1. I haven't seen this issue with those ROMS only with the original release (v1.0). I'm sure if you look around, you can find an updated ROM for it.

Thanks for the help, looks like snes9x-next isn't compatible with the 1.0 version of Megaman X, but the 1.1 version works perfectly.

I had some crazy glitches when playing Mega Man X in raspi1 with lr-pocketsnes. Solved when switched to lr-armsnes. But now I'm suspicious of the ROM.
