      I've tried to map my steam controller as an Xbox controller but that hasn't worked and is still recognized as a keyboard, anyone got any ideas on how I can make it so my controller isn't recognized as a keyboard?

        You probably need to create a udev rule or two. See if this helps:

            Did you create the user group along with the udev rules?

            This is from the Steam forums regarding the same problem in Ubuntu. It's basically a variation on the same fix above, but it might yield better results.

              I've created the user group and the udev rules but it still recognized as a keyboard and not a controller with a majority of buttons not registering as anything

                I have the same problem on Arch, would be very interested if you find a solution. I have also tried making the udev rules and different groups, still no luck. This is an interesting bug report that may be useful:
