Initial Setup

Hey guys, just a quick question... got my first RaspberryPi 3 vB a few days ago. I haven't turned it on yet or anything, just put it in the case and my PS3 controller came today, so, very much a noob.
Kit came with a 16GB Sandisk MicroSD with NOOBS preinstalled on it.
Question is, do I use NOOBS? do I format the thing (FAT32?) and download the current version of Raspbian? or do I not bother with either, just format it and download/install the RetroPie image?
Reading the instructions, I was unclear if it would work on NOOBS, or if the image file already had Raspbian included type deal.
Basically... if I have a RaspberryPi and a blank microSD card... do I follow these instructions? or do I have to do something else first THEN follow those instructions?
Thanks

Yes. Use those instructions. Just use a blank SD card. If it has NOOBS on it you can reformat the card, but when you install the image it should have the partition info and such and when you first boot the Pi it will expand the file system so you can use all of the space on the card.

@THRobinson Do yourself a favor and forget NOOBS. It makes just sense if you want to make dual boot with RetroPie and a special "Kodi optimized kernel" like OpenElec.

Thanks... wasn't sure if it was like Windows, in the sense that I install an OS then install RetroPie as an app... or if it's an image file that has the OS and App together and setup (for the most part) already, which sounds more like what it is. Which is good for me because it's devoted for games only. I have KODI installed on my media server PC which is also connected to the TV with a couple of 3TB drives inside so, the RaspberryPi won't need KODI installed or anything. Just old games and setup for my PS3.

Kinda eager to play some games... I have not played NES games since probably the early '90s.
I think I also saw somewhere that this will play old Tandy TRS-80 games? That's what I started on back when I was about 5yrs old... doubt the games are as fun as I remembered, but looking forward to playing this game again.
Toilet paper, zombies, aliens... game had it all....
