Mini SNES Pi case (Work In Progress, with issues 3D Printing)
-
so i had never been entirely thrilled about having my PI in a case hooked up to my tv with wires and dongles sticking out every which way. i knew one day i would find a case that would have moved the ports to the back to keep it looking like any other tv set top box already on my tv stand.
i came across a thingiverse project (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1496674) that looked really good, and inspired my idea even further.
i dont know how to use 'good' 3d software. i know how to use Sketchup (i will find out later that this was a huge mistake). so i imported the .step files into sketchup and enlarged the entire thing by 1.5x and filled in all of the holes along the sides of the case. i made an opening at the back for the usb and ethernet ports on the pi, added standoffs for the pi to fasten to, added holes in the back panel so that i could move the HDMI and USB power using panel mounted components. i even added some more holes to fasten the top and bottom of the case together, is it is larger, and there is room for that now.
this is where things got complicated for me. i wanted to get this case 3d printed, and i quickly found out that the .skp files i have spent hours on were not very good for actually getting it 3D Printed. i found a local 3d printer on 3dhubs.com. and he started printing the bottom of the shell, and stopped part way through the print, and noticed that the floor of the case was thin, and distorted.

those are the two sketchup files that have all of my edits and whatnot done to them.if anyone knows anything about why my prints arent coming out nicely that would be a huge help.
