Resetting controller configuration

I have a USB SNES controller that was accidentally setup incorrectly, and now I am unable to access the controller setup from the UI. How can I reset the configuration on the controller? My apologies if this has already been answered somewhere, but I was unable to find an answer from googling.

SSH in (https://github.com/retropie/retropie-setup/wiki/ssh), run sudo ~/RetroPie-Setup/retropie_setup.sh and go to Emulation Station configuration via

Manage Packages -> Core Packages -> emulationstation -> Configuration or
Configuration / Tools -> emulationstation

and choose the option to Clear/Reset Emulation Station input configuration

(All packages with configuration appear in Configuration / Tools when installed)

Ty, I'll try that out. I know I set it up once on my friends wifi, so I'll take it back over there and hopefully it'll reconnect and I can try this out to fix it.

If you don't have network access, you can drop to a command prompt from emulationstation with a keyboard plugged in by pressing f4

That's even better! I thought maybe an function key would pull up the prompt, but I wasn't sure, since the keyboard wasn't letting me navigate the UI

Once you turn off the Pi (after following the above directions), and then turn it back on, will this automatically prompt you to map a controller before it lets you into RetroPie (just like the very first time you put the RetroPie image off you downloaded off this website onto an SD card it initially prompts you to setup a controller)?

Hello All, I'm having the exact same issue as described in this post, but for me the resetting of the config, didn't work. I am uses the latest 4.1 retropie on a PI3, installed in a Picade.
My controller is seen as a keyboard, & am able to map all the keys in ES, but no joypad files are created in retroarch. I use lr-mame libreto, & I am unable to map keys within mame general input, stuff like coin, or start/select. When I press enter on the keyboard, it blanks the key, but I am unable to set it to 1 of the buttons on the Picade.
Hope someone can help, I have been at this for days now, & getting a little frustrated.

Just wanted to clarify a step above.
From command prompt on pi you won't be able to make the ~ like found on a US keyboard.
Also there is a typo above, there is an underscore not a hyphen in retropie_setup.
cheers and thanks for posting, I got stuck in this catch 22 today which renders the retropie image useless without these instructions.

I found it easiest to use putty from my pc.
then sudo reboot at the command prompt when I was done.

the full command is- sudo /home/pi/RetroPie-Setup/retropie_setup.sh

@1500points you can change the keymap from raspi-config to US. our keyboard mapping is UK by default. I will correct the typo thanks.

what about retroarch?
I updated my retropie build and all of a sudden retroarch doesn't recognize any input.

Hey everyone, if this topic is too old I’m sorry and please redirect me if possible. Now to my issue, I tried the command above via command line and it says “command not found”. I did use a command to erase all the controller configurations to make the Os think it was a first boot, however, I don’t remember the command. Can anyone help with this? I can’t get any controller to work nor can I back out of a game.
