The best sounding system is scarse in your list: PC Engine. Only 2 TG16 tracks, and not even the best.
Some PC Engine titles are even better than the arcade versions:
Galaga 88
Kyukuoku Tiger
Dragon Spirit
Bomberman tunes (If you wanna laugh, play Sega Mega Bomberman afterwards)
Space HarrierAnd IMO Sonic 1 and 2 for the GameGear are filled with outstanding chiptunes, outclassing the Megadrive cousins.

@blanka Yes, and I feel terrible for it. I'm just starting to get into the TG16 library, and would love to know more. I know about some shooters, Air Zonk, Super Soldier Blade, Ginga Fukei Densetsu Sapphire, Lords of Thunder, ... but that's it. Thanks for your suggestions, don't hesitate to link any song in particular you wouldn't want me to miss!

@felleg
Sir can i ask what emulator did you used for outrunners for rpi3? Im having problems with the rom or emulator compatibility, tried it mame4all, advmame, mame2003, mame2010. It works on mame2010 but it is very slow and unplayable same with run and gun2. Hope you can find time to help me. Thanks! -
Here's an odd ... but a good one.
It's been used for the gameboy game robocop, washing machine commercials, and most recently in the documentary "how video games changed the world".
-
@synack have that as my ringtone ;-) classic tune.
-
@Ditch123 wrong thread, but I just looked and it seems I can't run out runners on my Pi either. I just assumed it would, since I was able to make it work on a Windows emulator. Sorry about that!

My all time favorites. Most are non-obvious, but you are insane if you don't like them.
Sonic Chemical plant is amazing:
Mortal Kombat opening theme is super catchy:
Contra Hard Corps level 1. Never failed to get me pumped up:
Robocop vs Terminator theme song on Game Gear:
Batman Returns on Game Gear
Chuck Rock on Game Gear (yeah, I was a game gear kid)
ANNNND this isn't from a game. It's from Psilodump, an 8bit music artist.
And the entire MGS1 OST is super atmospheric. It's fantastic.

@lilbud
I don't know why but the Wii Shop Channel Music always reminds me of Napoleon Dynamite. -
Pretty post, If we finally choose a song from a not too popular singer maybe the can skip copyrights issues ("publicity" of the group" in rpi!), well there goes my two options:
Hilltop Hoods >:D :
Zelda (this version in violin):
See ya ^^

Only tracked music IS music :D
For Retrogames only use music made in retro-style :D
Crusader - No Remorse & No Regret: The full soundtrack
No tracked but also Retro ... and the ambient is great! (You would call it "Lounge Music" nowadays)
UFO: Enemy Unknown - GeoScape

@DorkVonWaterfall said in Music suggestions for your RetroPie menu Music:

@goodpi31

@DorkVonWaterfall
Okay since you posted Cyndi Lauper, I have to post Goonies II for the NES. -
Amazing soundtrack from the video game "Machinarium".

Here's the ultimate playlist for chiptune style tracks:
And here's something more relaxing:
Edit: even code block can't help YouTube playlists appearing as videos. Anyway, paste the URL from the bottom part to get the full lists.

I have spent many hours building a playlist for my Pi. It's partially a nostalgia fueled soundtrack and partially music I recently discovered, thanks to SupraDarky (a youtuber). Most of the music is from the 8, 16 and 32 bit eras. RPG's have some of the best music so they are well represented.
I thought I'd make a playlist on Youtube so I can share my efforts with you all:https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLxvWYoavN9PqE1HMHGi0gkfSs09kLrExC
There should be something new and awesome to discover for everyone. :-)

I had an idea that each system could have it's own music. I never tried doing this, but here's some songs think sound good with each system. My rules were that it has to sound like it could be laid back menu music, and that it can't be too repetitive, (no map music.)
Arcade: Namco Museum Game Select Menu Theme (Gamecube)
Gameboy: Super Mario Land - Muda Kingdom
Genesis: Ristar - Break Silence
NES: Startropics - dungeon
PSX: Fighter Maker - Fighter Select
Mastersystem: OutRun - Magical Sound Shower
SNES: Super Mario RPG - Let's Do the Fooka-Fooka! -
I just started looking into music and found this thread. FANTASTIC ideas in here and a pile of songs I had completely forgotten about. I have one to add that doesn't really fall into the RetroPie category but it's just too awesome not to mention and I think it's a great fit for most systems.
