Not finding ROMs in certain SubDirectories

  • Raspberry Pi 3, running RetroPie 4.1.5.

So I have my favorite roms in their respective folders: NES, SNES, Genesis(Mega Drive), and N64 folders. Inside each of those folders I have a subfolder/subdirectory called "Every Single Rom EVER", and yes, you guessed it, that has every single ROM (EVER!) for each system ;)

My problem is these subfolders/subdirectories show up in NES, SNES, and Genesis, but NOT in Nintendo 64 for some reason. I just updated all main packages from source (except RetroArch failed from source, twice, had to do it binary...EDIT, actually, it's been stuck at binary update at "retroarch/bin/retroarch" for an entire hour now...something is off but I doubt that's my problem), along with the default N64 emulator as well (just in case), and Parse Gamelists is OFF (I know that's a common problem of RetroPie not finding newly added roms).

    Anything I can try?

  • @Dochartaigh Have you checked on the Wiki if the file extension of the N64 rooms you've got are supported? Are they in subfolders, or zipped?

These are the same ROMs I've been using for months now - and the same type of ROMs that are in the root folder (and there's even duplicates of the same exact ROMs in the root directory, and the subdirectory, yet only the root directory shows up).

  • Hmm... Have you checked to see if the gameslist.xml for N64 is there and has entries. With the games being there, and the other systems working, it could be that the XML file has gone corrupt perhaps?

  • @markyh444

I actually just deleted that moments ago (I'm at work now, sharing my home computers screen, which is then SSH'd into the Pi ;). I'm going to let it finish updating, reboot, and I think I can then look at the .XML and see if those are showing up (never looked at that contents of that file before - hopefully it's easily understandable).

  • Deleting the gamelist worked...must have been corrupt. Thanks!

subfolders are not supported when using gamelists afaik.

Do gamelists house the database-esque lists for every emulators ROMs? (I really know nothing about them to be truthful...just assumed if games weren't showing up I could try and delete the gamelist so it can be rebuilt)

All I know is I have ROM's for NES, SNES, Genesis, and now N64, complete with subfolders. Don't know if deleting the gamelists, or rebuilding all those packages fixed it but it's working so I'm happy.
