need some tips for retropie console

i want to make a raspberry pi handheld but i don't want to solder the controller to the raspberry pi or anything for that matter, any good tips, advice? Should I use a USB snes controller and just take its shell off and work around that, or make a controller build around a breadboard? Or anything else, this is roadblock for now

depends on how small you want your handheld to be, if you don't want to solder your only option is to find the smallest usb controller you can find, rip the guts out and work around that. breadboarding still entails soldering, not getting what you mean by "build around a breadboard" but don't want to solder.
