At first the ROMS weren't even showing up. After reading the wiki, i painstakingly renamed all the extensions of my roms so that they would be recognized but none of them start up. They act like they are (press any key for configuration) but just go back to the menu.

i have googled and found others who have this problem, but no solution.

i am transferring ROMS from my laptop, via my SD card slot and a MicroSD adapter

i get told to read the runcommand.log, but the folder that i am old to look in is always empty

all the wiki is good for is setting up and install. i have no idea why roms are not starting up and i was scared to ask because all the other thread responses are "did you check the wiki" and links to solutions that are not actually solutions. and no solutions are ever brought up. But i have been researching the problem for days now and give up.

i tried changing permissions on my laptop, but it didn't work. i tried to change permissions using file manager on retropie but browsing seems to be my only ability. i get an error saying i cant execute commands on non-local file systems. yes i am using a keyboard.

      Version 4.1.5

@billybag When you say you have renamed the file extensions, have you just changed the .zip to whatever the ROM extension is because this won't work. You'll need to unzip the files in the .zip as these will be the viable ROM files, and the .zip is just an archive folder.

@billybag No problem dude. We are here as a community to help and only direct people to the wiki as otherwise we'd be answering the same questions over and over that are already documented.
