Holding Select in Game

I'm playing Link's Awakening DX and in the start menu you can hold select and see your heart pieces and what tunic you're wearing, but when I hold select it'll pop up and instantly disappear.
I'm assuming this is because I have select as the enable hotkey button and it disables using select in game after 1 second of being held down.
I don't want to change my enable hotkey button. I was wondering if there was a way to have it so that holding down select works in game while also enabling hotkeys.

@Yamt short answer no - you will have to remap it to another button (for that particular emulator/game).
