Win32 Disk Imager Issue... can't get .img on SD card
-
@rbaker ok. thank you so much for responding!
-
@paradadf IT WORKED! Thanks!!!
-
@fefemae Please explain what you did to solve it and what you were doing wrong so that others may benefit in the future. Glad it's working now - so you just burned the unextracted file?
-
@rbaker I just put the unextracted file on the SD card. For some reason, that one showed up. I'm about to see if the RetroPIe boots up on my TV to see if it really worked--- will let you know.
-
@rbaker I plugged the raspberry pi into an outlet with the charger cord, and attached it to the tv with an HDMI. I'm just getting a No Signal message on the tv now.

What do you mean by this? You have to write a disk image. You cannot drag and drop the file onto an sd card. You mention a charger? What power supply are you using?
-
@rbaker I wrote the file onto it, sorry for bad wording. My raspberry pi came with a charger thing that I plugged into the wall for a power source. Also, I saw that I could only get the extracted file written onto the SD card when it was in the local disk... so that's what I did and it is working on the TV now

there is no need to even extract the .img.gz file.
What do you mean by this? If you burn this using disk imager, it will not boot. Are you saying you can?
-
@fefemae Please mark this thread as solved.
-
@rbaker i mean that you can directly choose the .img.gz file with the software and burn it to the sd card and it will work, without the need of previously extracting it to only a .img file.
-
@paradadf Wow, I did not know this and I have not tried this. How does it burn a compressed image? Why extract at all?
-
@rbaker How do I do that?
-
@rbaker how? No idea, but it works (at least for me).
-
@fefemae I think its in topic tools at the bottom? Or just edit your post title with [solved]? -press the unsolved.
-
@rbaker burning a compressed image? News to me too! Will have to try...
Though I think would still be wise to recommend extraction in the official doc's as some other tools may require extraction.

The Win32 Disk Imager program does not recognize the .img file whether it's on search for . or .img. It says that the file does not exist if I copy and paste the .img.
I'm having the same problem.
I downloaded the retropie file, extracted it to my desktop with 7zip, opened win32 disk imager, clicked that blue folder to select my disk image...and win32 disk imager won't find it from the desktop(or anywhere else).
I tried Etcher also. It finds correct image/or zip, but it freezes when it says "starting" -
@halo86 I have the same issue
-
@halo86 hi this is issue I am currently having and don't know how to fix it
