Can you use Xbox One controllers wirelessly with RetroPie and Raspberry Pi 3?
-
Hi folks. Sorry I'm a super newb at this stuff. Just got my Pi and setup retropie on it. I can connect my Xbox One controller wired no problem but was wondering if there is a way to use it wirelessly as well. I know it is not Bluetooth so that will not work but will the xbox one wireless adapter allow me to use the xbox one controllers with retropie? Help would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

I think the new Xbox One S controllers are Bluetooth but I think there's still issues with the xpad driver thinking it is a keyboard. Now I have the 2nd gen Xbox One controller (with the 3.5 mm audio jack in the bottom) and I had already purchased the Microsoft Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows ($25) which works great on my Desktop PC but its very awkward to plug into the RPi because of it's size and I don't think the RPi has enough juice to power it. It would never light up when holding down the sync (make discoverable) button.

@backstander Hey thanks for the reply. Sounds like you're saying the xbox one wireless adapter is a no go. Bummer. Maybe I'll just stick to a long cable. Thanks for the info!

I tried it when I first got my RPi and I tried again just last week but never got it to work.I have been wondering if a powered USB hub might work? I haven't tested it yet but if the adapter isn't getting enough power than a powered USB hub should work. If it is because of another issue then it will not work.
