Hi all, I got a Pi 3B for Christmas and my first project is RetroPie using the latest pre-built 4.1 SD image. I also happen to have an unused Steam Controller lying about.

After much Googling, I'm more or less really confused as to the state of the Steam Controller with RetroPie.

I installed the steam package from within RetroPie, but the controller isn't detected wirelessly with BlueTooth or when using it's included USB Bluetooth Dongle. Is wireless supported at all, if so, is it via the Pi's onboard bluetooth or the Steam Bluetooth dongle?

Wired, even though the package is installed, it is only detected as a keyboard which isn't optimal. There is a closed ticket here for support, but it doesn't seem like it was working well based on the comments with problems: https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/issues/1187

I'm not afraid to poke around, but with the seemingly conflicting information to get it working, a point to a more recently updated guide would be helpful and appreciated.
