Monitoring Game Frame Rate, Spec N64, and Frame Skipping

So, as the title sates, I would like to know how one can have the FPS displayed while playing N64 games, and would also like some info on using frame skipping with the N64. I found an option for frame skip in one of the emulator configs, and the value for "auto frame skip" was set to 1, with a target FPS of 20. This only affects the one emulator though. I found a frame rate display option on the Emulation Station menu, but it only works for the menu, not the games. Any help would be appreciated.
