Joystick/button & USB Controls At the Same Time

hi all i am a new user getting ready to build an arcade cabinet using a raspberry pi 3 with retropie. i am looking to have a 4 controller setup for both joystick/button and usb controllers. i am looking into using the i-pac 4 for the joystick/button configuration and rock candy ps3 controllers for that config.
The main question is "Is there an easy way to have all 8 setups plugged in and running so no matter which position someone grabs they are able to play in any configuration?"
if you know about this or maybe a better option please help!!
