Root directory full?

I use a 1 TB external HDD for my games and just have the retropie image on my 32 GB SD card and nothing else. For some reason after adding more games to my external HDD it now says I have no more storage space left on my SD Card and won't let me save anything to it. When I looked it said my SD card was using something like 29 gigs in the dev\root folder. Any ideas why or what I can do?

@Murderlol go to terminal and type df -h and post the output.

@Murderlol also post the output of lsusb.

@Murderlol according to that your SD card is full. Is it?
-
@columboscoat That's what I'm trying to figure out...all of my games are stored on my external HDD, so the only thing that should be taking up space would be the save states...but I used it just fine yesterday and then when I added a few games to the external HDD it suddenly started giving me errors saying that it was out of space.

@Murderlol your ext hdd is only 19% full. Did you turn off USB ROM service? Otherwise your Pi will automatically grab all the new ROMs on your hdd.
-
I did not, that's probably it, thank you! I'll look into it and report back.
-
@Murderlol Please do, for others. That is definitely your issue. I'm 99% sure.
-
Almost forgot to reply but yes that was the problem. I turned off that service and cleaned up some space on the SD card and it works great again, thank you!

@Murderlol Ah, cool. Glad you got it sorted. Thanks for replying. It just helps others who search the forum with similar issues.
