Having found nothing by searching (except my old thread that I made wrong so it go pushed to the back) I decided to remake the thread with the proper setup.

Anyway, my problem is that I can't run Parasite Eve II but no one else seems to be having this problem. I saw one post on a different forum from a guy saying the French version didn't work so he had to use the US version instead.
I'm trying to use the US version, and even tried the (E) version to see if it worked with no success.

What happens is it freezes at the main menu in a black screen, but I hit Start+Select to return to ES or, use any of the hotkeys really, like reset or savestates. I just can't move past that point. It will play the little attract cinematic after the Sony Entertainment logo then freeze.

Here are the post requirements as well.

      Pi Model or other hardware: (B, B+, 2 B, 3, X86 PC etc..) Pi 3b
Power Supply used: (If using a Pi) Official Supply
      RetroPie Version Used (3.6, 3.8.1, 4.01 etc.. - do not write latest): V 4.1
Built From: (Pre made SD Image on RetroPie website, Berryboot, or on top of existing OS etc..) Pre built from Official Site
      USB Devices connected: DS4 controller
      Controller used: DS4 controller
      Error messages received: None
Log found in /dev/shm/runcommand.log (if relevant):
Guide used: (Mention if you followed a guide)
File: (File with issue - with FULL path)
Emulator: (Name of emulator - if applicable) Playstation (PCSX ReArmed)
Attachment of config files: (PLEASE USE PASTEBIN.COM FOR LARGE LOGS)
How to replicate the problem: Go to the main menu.

I didn't answer the ones I didn't understand but I can try to answer them if someone explained to me.

I know this was an issue with PE2 even on PC based emulators a few years ago. I assumed then it was an issue with the roms available or something wrong with the emulator.

Have you gotten the game running on a different system before? Did the guy in the other forum even confirm he had it running properly?

I'll try to get access to a rom and test tomorrow if no answers are found by then

Fine here. Not sure how to troubleshoot since I had no problems. I'm using the converted pbp eboot of the US version. The usual I guess..update pcsx, use a psx bios if you're not, re-transfer game, get the game from a different source.

@Darksavior @Ronoh55 Thanks for the response. I can run it on PC fine with ePSXe, and if I google it I can see it used to be a problem that was fixed. The French dude I mentioned got it 'working' just by playing the US version which is what is freezing for me. (Sorry I'm kind of speaking to both of you here :P)

Umm so having said that I'm not really sure what you mean by all that. I'm using scph1001 for my bios, which I could certainly try a different one of yall had a suggestion, but I wasn't aware you can update specific emulators in retropie. I'll have to look into how to do so and let you know.

I'll also check out what a pbp eboot is to see if that will help me out. I did try re transferring however and grabbing from multiple sources to no avail. It seems to be a problem that my pi has with PE2 in general and not a bad dump.

I wish I could just stick my copy in the pi and play it. :P

EDIT: I checked out the pbp eboot thing and learned how to do it. I made an eboot of both discs together, and it did load up and work, but it still stops at a black screen in the same spot. Could it be another setting that I need to change?

@NecroCorey I recall there being an option in the default PSX emulator (lr-psx-rearmed?) for a Parasite Eve 2 hack fix, that you can enable or disable. I don't recall where it is off the top of my head, and I don't have my Pi in front of me to check right now

Go into the menu with Select+X (or whatever your hotkey is) and look around for the PE2 fix. I think it's under options, or perhaps settings. Might be nested under quick menu. Shouldn't be too hard to find. Somebody else might be able to point you closer to it. I haven't personally tested this change/fix, but it's worth a shot.

@MWGemini Odd thing is, I never even went in there to enable the PE2 fix and it worked fine on the first try.

@NecroCorey You didn't mention that you tried updating pcsx. Update with binary install, if that fails, try source install. I'm using the scph7502.bin but it shouldn't matter.

@Darksavior Like I said, I haven't personally tested it. In fact, I haven't tested PE2 at all on my Pi. I just recall seeing that option in the menus and thought it might be worth investigating. I don't have a clue what it does, or how to fix the problem other than what's already been mentioned. Wish I could be more helpful.

@Darksavior Oh yeah I couldn't figure out how to I forgot to mention lol. I got sidetracked with life stuff.

I'll check in a second and see if I can update it to let you know.

@MWGemini I did find the PE2 fix but forgot to mention it I think. In the other thread I read about it somewhere the PE2 fix is something that 'used' to work but the new versions of retropie apparently don't need it anymore.

I'll also run an grab that BIOS just to be sure. I wanna try anything I can. I made the Pi as a gift for my parents, and they're almost done with the first Parasite Eve. I gotta have PE 2 ready for them. :P

Thanks again for all your patience everyone, I know I'm asking super nooby questions and frustrating.

EDIT: Just a quick edit to let you know updating didn't change anything since it was alredy up to date. I'm going to try the 7502 bios however, but I have to transfer another copy of PE2 to the pi since I removed it to try some other stuff lol.

Confirmed the freezing with no bios added, with 7001, 1001, 7502, and 101. Plus all bios being put in the bios folder at once. Tried the PE2 hack option (while all bios were added). Looked for other options that might be relevant (found none).
Using up to date emulator, rom filename Parasite Eve 2 [Disc1of2] [U] [SLUS-01042] from reputable source. I can not get it working past the opening cutscene before the main menu.

I did just get an idea though. What would happen if we loaded a savestate that is past the point it is freezing? Would have to find a savestate to download to test though.

@Ronoh55 I had a similar idea actually. It would need to be an ingame state though since I believe it's the actual main menu that freezes.

I also tried doing weird stuff like changing the resolution and framerate stuff, video drivers. all kinds of stuff with no luck. I'm gonna google how to savestates work and see if I can take one off a pc emulator and use it somehow.

If you can get it working on the same libretro emulator on pc you should be able to just copy the save file over.

@NecroCorey Are you sure it's not the game copy protection that is the problem?

Search google for "Parasite Eve 2 PPF patch"

I tried the game again, and it freezes if I attempt to leave the shooting range. It seems to be a pcsx libretro problem from browsing their forums. No fix. The ppf patch is not for the US version

@Darksavior Just got on to say I tried out the savestate thing and loaded into the shooting range then crashed trying to leave. I guess it's just not gonna happen which is unfortunate.

@NecroCorey Have you tried to see if the problem persist if you switch to lr-beetle-psx instead?

@Darksavior It's not installed by default. You have to add it yourself from the RetroPie-Setup.

@Rion I didn't see it. Also, read a bit lower from the wiki to find
                                          "Where is lr-beetle-psx?

The Beetle/Mednafen PSX core is not available for systems with ARM CPUs (like the Raspberry Pi) because it does not perform well enough. This emulator is supplied for people who are running RetroPie on more powerful x86 systems."
