No sound from Pi after trying usual debugging steps
-
I'm not getting any sound from my Pi after trying a number of debug methods. I tried a different sd card running minibian and did manage to get sound working. Once I transferred those settings to retropie I lost sound again.
I'm not entirely sure where to go next in order to get basic sound working. Because it was working on an alternate install I'm trying here before going to the general raspberry pi forums.Model: Pi3
Retropie: 3.7
Kernel:Linux 4.4.8-v7+ armv7l GNU/Linux/boot/config.txt
Note I've used the hdmI_mode and hdmi_group numbers from where I got it working using Raspbian
dtparam=audio=on
hdmi_group=2
hdmi_mode=9
hdmi_drive=2modules
$ lsmod | grep sndsnd_bcm2835 20511 0 snd_pcm 75698 1 snd_bcm2835 snd_timer 19160 1 snd_pcm snd 51844 3 snd_bcm2835,snd_timer,snd_pcm
Troubleshooting steps
Note not using sudo- Run /opt/vc/src/hello_pi/hello_audio/hello_audio.bin 1
No sound - Run aplay /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav
No sound - Run amixer -c 0 cset numid=3 2
then sudo aplay /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav
No sound
From some research, looking at the TV properties can help.

@dasfreak go to your config.txt and change "hdmi_group=2" to "hdmi_group=1"
Group 1 is CEA
Group 2 is DMT (no sound)
