      Hi everyone,

      First of all congrats on the great forum! This is my first post so please let me know if I'm doing this right! :)

      I've had a few goes at fiddling with Retropie and emulators in general but I am relatively new to all this and have run into some difficulties recently. I have looked everywhere but cannot seem to find anyone that has gone through the same issues.

      I am running elementary OS 0.3.2 Freya (built on Ubuntu 14.04), which as most of you will know is an Ubuntu-based distro, on an HP Pavillion laptop (Quad-Core AMD A10-5745M APU with Radeon HD 8610G Richland dual-graphics).

      1st Issue: "UNSUPPORTED OS" ERROR (solved)
      The first problem I ran into when trying to install Retropie via the Retropie setup script was that I kept getting an "Unsupported OS" error that stopped me from opening the setup GUI. I eventually managed to figure it out, so if you're also having this problem all you need to do to be able to run the setup script on elementary OS (and perhaps other distros in which you get this error) is:

      • Go to: home/RetroPie-Setup/scriptmodules and open the file system.sh with a text editor (e.g. Scratch).

      • Find the lines "Raspbian|Debian)" and add "elementary OS" to them - it will look something like this "Raspbian|Debian|elementary OS)". Note: the space between "elementary" and "OS" is important!

      Try to run the Retropie setup script once again in the Terminal and it should now work and take you to the setup GUI!

      2nd Issue: "COULD NOT SUCCESSFULLY BUILD RETROARCH/EMULATIONSTATION"
      This the problem I am experiencing at the moment and have looked everywhere for help to no avail.

      I am using RetroPie-Setup Script version 4.1.11 [Last commit: 19 hours ago (296ca6e4)].

      When I try to do a Basic Install I eventually get the following error after 30 minutes or so:

      • Could not successfully build RetroArch - frontend to the libretro emulator cores - required by all lr- emulators (/home/miguelcervantes/RetroPie-Setup/tmp/build/retroarch/retroarch not found).*

      Unfortunately a complete log wasn't saved for some reason, but I am in the process of trying to install Retropie again and will post the log if I get one this time.

      As I mentioned I am a complete novice so if anyone knows how to get Retropie to install or provide any help I would greatly appreciate it!

        In addition to my previous post:

        I have tried installing Retropie via the Setup script (from: https://github.com/retropie/retropie-setup/wiki/RetroPie-Ubuntu-16.04-LTS-x86-Flavor) on three other different systems (one running Ubuntu 14.04, Ubuntu 16.04.1 and other Mint 18.1 Cinnamon) with the same result - "could not build" errors regarding Retroarch and Emulation Station, which I have screenshotted below:

        I have tried everything from clean installs, to different PCs, to updating the Script and I'm wondering if perhaps it is possible that it's got something to do with the Retropie-Setup script instead?
        Is anyone getting any similar problems installing Retropie in Ubuntu via the setup script or is there something I'm doing wrong?

        As I mentioned, I am quite new to this and if there's anything else I can include to help with a possible diagnosis please let me know. I would greatly appreciate any help with this issue! :)

          I had tested it on elementary os, but only the latest version. Please post the full error you got when trying to run it initially which shows the os variables so I can confirm a change to make it work on an older elementary.

          Regarding the error, after the screen above it shows the path to an error log. Please post the error log on a site like pastebin.com and I will advise. The log should be saved so long as you exit normally from retropie-setup

          otherwise you can get a log by manually doing sudo ./retropie_packages.sh retroarch

            @BuZz Thanks a million for your help! I ended up installing the latest elementary OS 0.4 Loki, updated the Retropie-Setup script and voila!
