USB path for Vice Flipdisks

So I'm clearly in over my head. Here are my specs:
RP3B, RetroPie 4.1 and Vice, everything updated to latest packages (just now).
Followed this guide to automatically mount my USB drive, which contains all my roms:
So I finally have Vice up and running. The difficulty is in multi-disk games. In Vice options, I see where you select an image to put on the virtual drive, and I have the various sides as separate images on the USB... but I can't figure out how to browse to the image from within Vice. When you browse in Vice for an image, it starts you in a temp directory on the SD card (where my OS is stored). My USB card is /dev/sda but I can't figure out how to get inside. It is mounted, because I can play games off of it, but I'm such a Linux noob, I can't figure out what to do to browse it (either in Vice, or in the shell).
I'm also trying to setup flipdisks for multidisk games. Is there a way to accomplish this outside of Vice? Browsing in Vice is very cumbersome, partially because I can't see the whole filename (like what disk number and disk side I'm choosing). Is there a better / faster way to make flipdisk files?
