psx multitap retroarch 4 players
-
@byakuyadx So even after you change all that and get it working you...:
- Reset the game (not quit) the resume it to make sure it still works
- Saved a controller configuration file after making changes
- Go back to the "retroach quick" menu and save a game option and it reads saved successful..
- Then you quit the game and then restart it..
but the changes don't take effect?
I can't remember the actually hardware setup..my psx is in the attic...but I could swear when we played that game the tap was plugged into the second port of the psx..but again that was years ago....

I can confirm this even after saving the controller file and configuration file for the game. Both configs load correctly on start. Not sure what the problem is..
Although the game does work after changing the config in the rgui and restarting from there. Again starting from emulationstation causes it not to work correctly for some reason.
This is on the PI and PC this problem occurs...with CTR anyway

Hi all,
Sorry to open up an old post, but I am still unable to get multitap working on the latest le-pcsx-rearmed PS1 binary (1.6.7 r22).
I have tried both Crash Team Racing and Micro Machines V3 but neither work,
Pi Model or other hardware: Rasberry Pi 3
Power Supply used: 5V 3A USB power cable
RetroPie Version Used: 4.3.2
Built From: Built from 4.3 image, fully updated to 4.3.2, all cores, ES, retroarch etc.
USB Devices connected: Bluetooth dongle
Controller used: WiiU Pro (x2), Sony PS3 (x2)
Guide used: https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Playstation-1/
Emulator: lr-pcsx-rearmed (1.6.7 r22)How to replicate the problem:
Update to lr-pcsx-rearmed 1.6.7 r22 with latest retropie-setup scripts, launch either CTR or Micro Machines V3. Open up retroarch menu (with per-game config enabled - see guide) and enable either Multitap Port 1 or Port 2. Restart game and test Multiplayer section.
No matter what I try I just can not got 3+ player working on either of those titles. I've tried enabling both Multitap port 1 and 2, just port 1, just port 2, setting to auto, restarting game from RetroArch or fully restarting from ES after saving per-game configs. Nothing I have tried has worked so far.
CTR won't allow me to select 3P or 4P, they remain greyed out. Micro Machines V3 allows me to select more the 2 players, but Player 2 seems to have control over both Player 1 and Player 2 selection, while Player 3 has no input.
The controllers work fine, and I have successfully gotten multitap working on other lr- cores (e.g. Mega Drive, SNES, NES, TG16).
Is there something else I can try? is this a known issue that lr-pcsx-rearmed multitap doesn't work at the moment, or have others got it working.
Please let me know if you need any other info. Thanks as always everyone!

I have been able to get Crash Bash, CTR, Bomberman Party and World, Twisted Metal 3 and 4 to work fine for me. Haven't tested 8 players for FIFA 98 yet not enough controllers.

Thanks very much for the response and confirmation @akafox . Before I go ahead with a full image re-install, I don's suppose there's anything obvious you can think of that I could try or that I've missed?
Would you mind listing exactly how you got it to work?
-
@sonicsheppard Example: Bomberman Party Edition
- Start game
- Press select+X and goto the quick menu
- In that menu goto Options
- Go down to Multi-tap 1 and disable it
- Go down to Multi-tap 2 and enable it
- Back out to the quick menu and the select "Save Game Overrides"
- Back out the main menu and quit retroarch
- Reload the game
- Start a Battle game..when you get to "How Many Players Screen" all players should be human
Note that multi-tap 1 must be off and Multi-tap 2 must be on..why..because this is the way the hardware worked (I have the game and hardware) The tap HAD to be in the player 2 slot for it to work..that was the way the game was programed!
(if you enable Multi-tap 1 at all..you will NOT have control of the game (your controller will appear to not work but you can get to the retroarch menu and reset and quit normally still..) again this is the way the actual hardware worked
For Crash Team Racing you follow the same steps. Normally you used player 2 slot for the tap..but not always. (I think Rally Cross used player 1 slot only.) Just depends on the game..knowing which games used which port is trial and error..(would be nice if someone made a list though ;) )

Thanks for those steps @akafox !
I've given that ago on Bomberman party and CTR (even tried multiple rom files), but no dice. I confirmed what you are seeing on Bomberman when port 1 is enabled, losing all controller input, but if I just enable port 2 I can only control player 1 and 2, not any others.
There's got to be some pcsx or Retroarch option I've got that is incompatible. The controllers work fine on other cores. So odd.
I'll try a fresh image on another card and see what happens.
Thanks.
-
@akafox - Ok, so after a completely fresh install I'm still seeing the same outcomes.
- Format MicroSD card
- Install RetroPie 4.3 image for Raspberry Pi 3
- Boot Pi and setup controllers in ES (used different ones just in-case, wired X360 and wired RetroLink N64), for use in RetroArch.
- Perform sudo apt-get update, sudo apt-get upgrade, update RetroPie-Script to 4.3.2, update all Core and all Main packages
- Copy across PSX BIOS file (SCPH1001.BIN) and Bomberman Party file
- Edit PSX retroarch.cfg to include "game_specific_options = true"
- Boot Bomberman Party, open RetroArch, create game file, disable Multitap 1 and enable 2. Save game specific config and quit game.
- Boot Bomberman Party and try Battle Mode with 3+ players
I'm getting the same results as on my previous setup. Player 1 and 2 work fine, but there's no input from Player 3.
I've also tried a different BIOS file (SCPH101.BIN), no BIOS files at all.
Tried updating lr-pcsx-rearmed from source, still no dice.
Really not sure what else I can try now as that is from a completely clean install. Is there anything in the above that jumps out as being wrong? Anything I've missed? Are you using a BIOS file, and if so, which one?
Thanks!
-
- Edit PSX retroarch.cfg to include "game_specific_options = true"
Everything looks okay, but I have to ask why this step? I didn't do that.
Edit: Oh as per the wiki (that answers that...)
Yes the bios in the bios folder as per the setup wiki.
I am lost. As a last ditch effort disable both taps, save the game overrides (the last option in the quick menu..quit..load the game...should run normally..open retroarch menu..look at your settings...did they change or stay the same?
THEN change the tap settings as described and resave them using the last setting on the QUICK MENU (save game overrides). Resume the game from the top of the quick menu (resume) exit the game with start select and the restart the game.
One quick question..your controls are set to max users of 5 in the input menu correct? (found from the main menu>input (the first setting)
-
@akafox I've cracked it!!
Your idea of disabling Multitaps gave me an idea. I disabled both Multitaps and checked Bomberman Party, with this it only allowed me to select a maximum of 2 players, with Multitap Port 2 enabled it allowed a maximum of 5 players - so the Multitap option itself was clearly working, it was something with the controller settings.
My Max Users was set to 5, however I noticed the Pad Type in Options was set to DEFAULT for all pads, knowing that you have to change that to Analog for things like Dual Shock, I changed it to STANDARD. That worked!!!
TL;DR - lr-pcsx-rearmed Multitap only works when Pad Type is set to STANDARD and not DEFAULT.
Thank you so much for your help and patience @akafox .

No problem. Mine are all set to default I never changed any of that either..so idk shrugs
Glad you got it working! :D
