Pixel Theme

@General_Toxic
I don't have a version of Child Friendly ES to edit the theme for. It will require removing the flair text and the console images to make room for the icons. So, basically a theme re-design. And each of the 60+ system XMLs will have to be edited. That's... a lot of work. LOL. Unless it's an OMG we HAVE TO HAVE THIS I'd rather not work on it yet. I have looked into it. I will definitely make the changes if RetroPie moves to make Child Friendly the default ES.Also, making the changes for Child Friendly would make large blank areas for non-child-friendly, other distros, and windows and linux versions of EmulationStation. So I'd actually need to fork my own theme and maintain 2 separate themes. One for regular ES, and one for Child Friendly -_-

I think the tags at the top of the xml file are different too, have a look at each of them, changing them may make it work, but you won't have the added extras for kid-friendly....
but there's a high possibility it may break itedit: if I remember correctly there's an xml version number in the top tags of each xml file of the theme

I left the laziness behind and did a googleimages search, and found the splash screen (1920 x 1080) to perfectly match with pixel theme. Guess where?! petrockblock.com (d'oh!)

@administrators can you please make this image an "official" splash screen?
-
Thank you for your help. Best theme ever. The only thing in my desktop section is just the Desktop sh file to launch me straight to XFCE since i didnt care for LXDE. didnt know how to make the word desktop pixelated but still works for now.
-
@Aliendon
Ah yeah, I totally just threw XFCE in my Ports section. Way easier (and less systems to have to scroll through). LOL. Looks good tho. Used the DOS pixel art ^_^. Nicely done.I made a boot splash image on the old forum. Haven't linked it here. Little less blocky than that one.
Massive pixels are a little distracting :PHere's a pixellated Desktop image if you want to use it. Made a gradient so you can be sure to see it on a dark background.

@Rookervik
Thank you so much, you absolutely Rock. Will apply them to the theme in tomorrow and take a pic and post it. went with the blue background instead of the black one, looks way better now, i had XFCE in my ports section but just wanted some thing different and had way to many things in the port section, keep up the good work and thank you again. -

@InsecureSpike @Rookervik
I believe the term is 'do'h'Just realized kid friendly mode does work with any theme, but it's only if you want the extra UI options you need to edit all the XML files...

did you try it? it was just a theroy, I suggested

@InsecureSpike
Yeah I tried this evening and it seems to work fine - Did the usual testing via menu options, locking, unlocking etc. and no issues since the update a few days ago -Only thing I didn't do was put it in kid mode, just full and kiosk but it seems fine...

I am wondering the same thing. Can't really test now but I use kids mode a lot.

you could make yourself a custom edite of this theme, try adding the missing tags, from the default kid-friendly Carbon theme, then add it to this one, you'll most probably have to move the icons positions, to your liking. if you do uptake this route, back up all vital stuff, and play away, I'm sure @Rookervik wouldnt mind, you never no he may agree upon you releasing it, for the others, as long as you give him credit/kudos for the main design,
just a thought, also it'll give you a lil insight into theming/skinning. also you may only need to work on one system theme, until you achieve your desired goal.@Rookervik hope you didn't mind, this custom idea "for personal use"

When it comes to grafix I am at a loss. So that's not going to happen.
But I did get around to test the theme out and it works great. Sure there are the missing button descriptions in the theme but everything is accessible with start or select in ES.

Can you add Adventure Game Studio, Steam (Moonlight/Limelight), and Desktop art to the theme?
-
@RetroPieNerd
Been out of state for a week. AGS is already in the theme I believe. At least I've done the art for it. I'll work on the others tomorrow when I have free time. I'm tired of arguing that single-item systems should go in ports, so I'll just draw the icons instead :P
-
Alright, that's fine with me.
-
Yes, the AGS art is there already. Sorry about that.

Added Pixelv7 with AGS, Steam, and Desktop system sections. Download link is updated on the main thread post.
