Is it possible to get the Quake soundtrack working?
-
I've been looking for a solution but haven't found anything conclusive. I'm using the libretro-tyrquake engine.
Do I have to follow a naming convention like the Doom port? Or is it not possible at all? The Retropie wiki page for Quake doesn't mention anything about the soundtrack.

Hi @lalilulelo
I've managed to get Quake music working when using the darkplaces-quake port, I'm not sure about lr-tyrquake however.
You an get music by following the instructions here - https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=119489135
You can download the music packs in the link above) for Quake and the two Mission Packs (if required).
The music for Quake goes into a "music" folder inside "\home\pi\RetroPie\roms\ports\quake\id1". The music for the mission packs go into a "music" folder placed inside either "\home\pi\RetroPie\roms\ports\quake\id1\hipnotic" or "\home\pi\RetroPie\roms\ports\quake\id1\rogue".
I've confirmed the .ogg music files work, not sure on the .mp3 ones though. You'll probably want to tweak the music and sound affects volumes when in game (if using darkplaces-quake).
Cheers.

Thank you for your response @sonicsheppard .
Wasn't aware that you could use the darkplaces-quake port on the Retropie. Will definitely try this out.

No problem @lalilulelo . I've only just started using darkplaces-quake myself actually. You can find it in either Optional or Experimental, can't quite remember which.

@sonicsheppard Man, thanks for linking us up :) I got the Quake tracks from your link, and i will give these a try i the morning (wifie is asleep now, and she'll kill me if i wake her up with NIN). If anyone would have a link for the Doom 1 and Doom 2 tracks, then please post it here!

Hi @Xyb0t . Sorry for the late reply.
In regards to Doom music, the wiki says to search for "PSX doom music", however, I personally use the excellent Roland SC-55 music packs as detailed by @Rion here - https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/4657/roland-sc-55-music-packs-for-duke-nukem-3d-doom-series-shadow-warrior-blood-descent-series
There's links to Doom, Doom II and TNT/Plutonia packs, in mp3 and ogg formats.
Cheers

@sonicsheppard
Thanks man :) Although, i'm not really a huge fan of the Roland Sound Canvas (especially the guitar sound). Anyways, i'll have a look at the PSX music. Although not 'authentic', it sounds more like 'real' music :)On a sidenote, the SC55 pack features a track called 'bye bye american pie', and i can't help to think how much it sounds like a very well known Alice in Chains classic:
