Hi! I recently bought a raspberry pi 3 that was soldered into a Sega Genesis USB Hub Case. Instead of the standard power supply, it's actually powered via a USB cable coming out of the unit, then into a 2.5a USB power adapter/block. Whenever I'm using the Pi, I'm constantly seeing the lightning bolt (power) icon in the top corner. I'm worried now that I might cause damage/corruption to my SD card or to the Pi. The person that did the soldering said to try to look for a USB to 3.0a power apdapter/block, but I'm not sure which is the right one (if this is even the right solution). Have any of you all had any similar power issues and found a solution? Thank you all so much!

this is probably too late...but your problem is most likely with the actual power cord. whoever you got it from probably just used the usb cable that came with the hub itself, which isnt going to deliver the power the pi needs. i would buy an "official" or even a "viaboot" brand power supply and plug that into the pi inside if it still has the micro usb port attached....otherwise you will have to cut the micro usb connector off power supply and then solder directly to pi.

Have you taken apart the hub to look at the workmanship? Where was the power cord soldered to? Is the Pi being powered from the hub internally?! It could be a lot of things. Take it apart and post up some photos and we can try to help diagnose.
