Edit gamelist.xml issue
-
Not sure if something goes wrong on my end or if it is a general behaviour of RetroPie but I have a small issue when editing the gamelist.xml files.
I start up my Pi then access it via FTP (Filezilla) and open/edit a random gamelist.xml file.
I then write data into it, mostly copy&paste stuff from other gamelists. Then I save and upload it via FTP again.
Then I restart Emulationstation.
Now when I access the system that I edited the gamelist it should be in "detailed" view mode but it isn't . It's still in "basic" view mode.
So I check again the gamelist I just created and it is empty except for the usual tags that show in an empty gamelist.xml file. What exactly happened?
Is ES overwriting the gamelist files on restart?
If so is there a way to prevent that from happening?
Or is there a different way to edit gamelist files?Device: RPi 3 (look at my sig for more info)
ES: v2.0.1A
RetroPie: v4.1.5 -
You need to exit emulationstation before making any edits.
I need to add this tidbit to the wiki.
In theory if ES is modified to use SQLite instead of XML, you might not have to exit first but may not be human readable/editable but anyways that functionality is yet to be seen.

Thanks for your reply.
When I quit ES (F4 or select Quit ES) and go to the command prompt window I can overwrite the files.
Once I am done I just type emulationstation and all is good.
