lr-Fuse Spectrum Emulator- How to load spectrum without a game?

Hi all
I'm fairly new to retropie and new to the forum, fist off hello all!
Here's my problem.. Ive got the default spectrum emulator working how i want it, with my controller being recognised as a kempston and thats all good. What I want to do but cant figure out is how to launch the spectrum just as the base unit, ie without loading a game. I want to be able to type in some basic, type in some listings etc and then maybe even save state.
Does anyone know how to get the emulator to just open into the 48k or 128k without having a game loaded in memory?

@mikecolinsmith When I last used it, the emulator starts up and you had to open a file to load a game. It started to the command line so you could type basic. I recall pressing F1 on Fuse to access a world of options, one of which was reset back to the command line. Not used it in version 4 of retropie though.

@mikecolinsmith I don't know if you solved this but if you add a dummy (or empty) file to the zxspectrum roms folder, e.g. speccy.z80, when you select this from EmulationStation it will do what you're looking for. If lr-fuse is set to 128K mode then you'll get the menu (use Shift and 6/7 to move up and down). If it's in 48K mode then you'll go straight into the 1982 Sinclair Research, etc BASIC screen. It works for me.

If you want to do anything other than playing games, you would do better to install the standalone fuse emulator. You still need a dummy file to launch (I will change this so it installs a launch file), but it has a lot more features etc and is more useful for programming on

I have added a "+Start Fuse" script to the standalone fuse now - if you update retropie-setup then install fuse you should get it.

You may also like to look at zesarux emulator - which I have heard is good.

I'll revisit and take a look at the zesarux emulator too.
I think I originally used standalone Fuse (quite some time ago) but there was a tape symbol on screen that I couldn't seem to get rid of at the time....unless that was a different spectrum emulator - I ended up settling for lr-fuse (after messing around a bit with the config to get the keyboard to behave).

@tashman F1 -> Options -> General -> Status Bar (I think I had to enable Auto save settings also or it wouldn't stick)
