Oldroom theme W.I.P. new 1.9 Beta + media packs
-
@jdrassa Thanks, but I have no idea how to do that, and I doubt many average Retropie users do. It's a shame such a great theme is sort of broken now.
-
You Sir are Absolutely Amazing!
Love everything from snaps pack to theme to script. Just excellent! Well done and Thank you....now i need to learn how to modify theme for missing console pics for menu layout..
-
I love this theme but it looks like the man nismo has gone awol.
In the meantime my brother and i have modified oldroom a bit, added two systems(ds and pcengine/tg16), and for the systems i use have added z-index support so they should all work just dandy, video should play behind the tv border, and marquees should display over both (if it's a big marquee).
The ds one plays vids but just in mid air so to speak.I couldnt think of a way of adding a ds console and to split the single long narrow video into two parts to play on two separate screens.
So ive uploaded some files.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/k48oxn6fubj0kuu/oldroom 1080p.rar?dl=0
Oldroom.xml main replacement file + replacement theme.xml, bg.jpg (background image) and system_art.jpg for the following systems.
gamegear, gb, gba, gba, mame, mastersystem, megadrive,n64,nds,nes,pcengine,psx,retropie,snes.
The theme.xml has the z-indexing set.The bg.jpg images have had the top left corner darkened a little, as sometimes the bright poster in that spot behind the tv would clash with the game marquee that appears in the same spot. And the system_art.jpg files have been replaced with some ones from tronkyfrans image.
You don't have to use the system_art images or the darkened background images if you don't want, if all you want is the z-indexing support just use the new theme.xml files.
Generally, unzip the rar file and AFTER MAKING A BACKUP, all you should need to do is drag and drop to configs/all/emulation/themes/oldroom 1080p and overwrite the files.Or just pick and choose what files you want/need.
Now to clarify, i am NOT 'taking over' this theme, these are not endorsed or supported changes/additional files by nismo and nor will i be providing any ongoing support for this theme. If you don't know what to do with the files i have provided, try harder.I can't and won't monitor this thread for any questions, these files are provided 'as is'.
Just trying to give back to the community.
p.s.
Alot of the snaps, marquees and boxart you need to match this them can be found over at https://emumovies.com/ and http://hyperspin-fe.com/ .
Sign-up is required, but you should be able to source MOST of your media there to fill this theme out.
edit-updated download link with a dropbox link

@megafacehead can you please post your archive to something other than filehosting.org?
I've tried lots of times now but it's too slow (connection time out) to be able to download from there. -
@aelgen Any suggestions?I don't often upload stuff.
-
Dropbox, google drive, amazon should all have a "public" where you can share a link to the file.
Mediafire or mega.nz maybe but they require login.
Should be several others but I'm not familiar with them -

I love this theme and understand not all platforms are addressed (ie: dosbox, scummvm, ports, etc) but for those unsupported, i can never see what item/game is selected - like there's no highlighting.
-
I love this theme.
someone knows why the favorites do not see me with the theme? -
Maybe i am just stupid... i cant get this to work. Can someone please explain to me.
-
Has anyone heard from Nismo since the surgery?
If Nismo has abandoned this, should someone else pick this up to add the remaining systems?
-
@enderandrew I don't want to spread any rumors, but he wasn't online since his heart surgery and that is not a good sign...
-
@donkeykong he had the surgery and was/is recovering
-
My art skills are limited but I can use photoshop. I'm half tempted to see if I can add more systems to this theme but I've never created an ES theme before. I'm not sure if someone else would have an easier time tackling it.
-
Some of the themes aren't loading, while others are working perfectly fine. Example is that PSX is just a list on a white background. Not really sure what I did wrong, and haven't figured out how to fix it. Any advice?
-
@NewBliss That sounds like there isn't a psx theme folder and xml file for that system.
-
dose this tell you how many players can play a game

Over 3 years later and this theme is still great looking, and the download link still works! As this seems to have been abandoned and also isn't available on the RetroPie Theme Installer, would I be allowed to host this on my own Github and submit the pull request? Or would I still need the blessing of @Nismo if he ever comes back?
