Pc engine add new extension default
-
Hi,
You don't need to edit the es_systems.cfg for Turbografx CD games to work, the .cue files you are using are already listed in there and if the game shows up in ES it's fine.
I cannot vouch for the quality of the BIOS you are using or games and if either/both are corrupted, but for me all I did was:
Put the syscard3.pce in the BIOS folder (it doesn't appear to be needed anywhere else), my syscard3.pce is v3.00
Put the matching .cue and .iso into the pcengine roms folder
Made sure 100% that the .cue file references the .iso EXACTLY, I mean extension and all. Lots of CD games have their ISO with a capital letter file extension, but the .cue references it in lower case.Turbografx CD games also show the BIOS screen prior to game launch and you have to push run to continue, if you are not getting this i'd be tempted to try another BIOS.
I use lr-mednafen-pce-fast as my emulator, I believe this is the default anyway.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply, I would say that these are all the steps I've done as well, but I will check the .cue and .iso names again. The way I changed the .cue was to open them in TextEdit, and copy the filename of the .iso file into the top line on the .cue file, inbetween the quotations. I made sure the file extension was lowercase as well.
I will also look for another version of the bios file. I have two, one is (I think) 265k, and the other is 264k. Regardless, I did note that one was 1k less than the other.
cheers,

Hi,
No worries. Try searching for syscard3.pce in google and go for the second result (think of palm trees!?) Anyway, once you have located the syscard3.zip, unzip that to the /home/pi/RetroPie/BIOS folder.
It should be 262656 bytes (the .pce file that is).
Make sure you are using the same emulator as me just to be sure, lr-mednafen-pce-fast.
Thanks

Success. Finally.
I found the bios file. But I don't think that was the problem though. I put it in place on the Pi and still got nothing, no game. So I kept pouring over your suggestions, and I came back to the naming of the .cue and .iso file names.
No even expecting it to work, I changed my approach to getting the files to reference each other. Previously I had copied the name of the .iso file INTO the .cue file and saved it. Well, that was the problem. Even if the text matched, for some reason saving that .cue file maybe screwed it up. So I tried it the other way, I opened the .cue file, copied the name of the .iso (or .bin) and then changed the filename of the actual .iso file to match that. So in the end I did not "save" the .cue file with any changes, I just changed the name of the .iso file. Uploaded it to the Pi and the rest is history.
Thanks for your help movisman, very much.
For the record, I was doing all this on a Mac, maybe that was introducing a problem, dunno.
Cheers!

Excellent, glad you got things working! I guess the application you are using on Mac is maybe reformatting or changing the .cue somehow, I really don't know without seeing the file after it's been saved. Maybe you could try another application to make the edits.
Either way, renaming the .iso/.bin to suit what the .cue is looking for will work also!
Cheers.

@rocklima2 - i have a raspberry pi zero. i'm not very experienced with this, but what do you mean .... add .ccd extension .... because i have noticed that the games that aren't working are the ones that are iso's. The one's with .bin are working fine (after i fixed the text in a couple of the .cue files to match the .bin file name). i tried just changing the extension, but that didn't work. Do i need to convert the file in a program.

@BuZz - sorry, new here. Thanks for the reply. i don't understand why i would start a new topic, when my question is about the first comment in this topic. As far as i can tell, i already followed the advice. i did a search and this was the closest thing that came up about my question. i've put many, many hours and late nights, in the past week researching this project and just trying to figure this out. Thanks for any help and direction.
