RetroPie Menu missing from Emulationstation

Hi All,

I've gone through the forums looking for a solution but wasn't able to replicate the success of similar posts. I was attempting to move my Retropie folder with ROMs from a USB directly to my SD card on the pi. I somehow moved or deleted the RetroPie menu which now doesn't show up in Emulation Station. I tried to access the setup script here https://github.com/retropie/retropie-setup/wiki/Updating-RetroPie, but I can't access the RP menu in ES and the listed command (sudo ~/RetroPie-Setup/retropi_setup.sh) is an incorrect command.

I can see the menu folder under RetroPie-Setup/scriptmodules/supplementary/ but I'm not sure where this needs to be for emulationstation to recognize it and have it display alongside the emulators.

I'd prefer not to wipe and reinstall the full OS. Everything else is working perfectly (Emulation Station, ROMS on SD, Scraped graphics) All thats missing is the Retropie menu from the Emulator Selection Menu.

I'm a CLI baby so please feel free to dumb down any advice.

Forgot to mention I'm using a RPi 3b and running Retropie 4.1.

@rpienuub First type cd RetroPie-Setup this changes you to the correct directory. Then run sudo ./retropie_setup.sh This will get you into the menu you need. First update the script. Choose Manage Packages > Update all core packages. That should sort it.

@rpienuub There is an e missing off the end of retropie in the script name. That's why it didn't work...

Thanks Alex,

So I had the e in at the time. I think I just left it out when I added it to this post. Changing directoried did take me to the right place and I was able to get to the RetroPie Setup page. I updated the core packages, but now for some reason emulationstation wont boot up at launch. I've tried rebooting typing emulationstation, and going into the raspi config menu to see if theres an option to boot ES upon startup without any luck. Any idea what the update might have done to prevent ES from booting?

@rpienuub Go into setup script again and update ALL installed packages and Raspbian packages when prompted.

That worked! Emulationstation is back and I've got the Retropie menu again. The only issue I'm seeing now is the sounds gone. When I first installed Retropie I had this issue. I used the sudo nano /boot/config.txt command to go into the config folder and removed the # from hdmi_drive=2. That fixed it. Now when I use that command it takes me to the file /boot/config.txt, but all the script that used to be there is missing. All that displays is

gpu_mem 256=128
gpu_mem 512=256
gpu_mem 1024=256
overscan_scale =1

I tried adding the hdmi_drive=2 to see if that worked without any luck. The other odd issue that may relate to this is the sound setting menu option in emulationstation is always set to 0. I try to increase it but it never saves. As soon as I exit out after increasing the volume it returns to 0%.

Im not sure how updating tge package scripts effected the contents of the /boot/config.txt file folder. Any idea how to remedy this?

hi, total noob, ive got the same problem, put roms onto my usb hdd and now the retropie menu from ES has gone and only reappears when the usb hdd is removed

also tried installing some new emulators ppsspp but when I plug my hdd back in, no retropie menu on ES and when I check my hdd, no psp folder in my roms folder

gonna try accessing the retropie menu using script, leaving the usb hdd plugged in and updating all packages
