Redream - Dreamcast Emulator
-
Just wanted to post this up. Reicast is really very good but it is becoming increasingly unlikely that there will be any further movement on it as time marches on. The dev has already opened up about the difficulties he has faced in recent times.
So I discovered this emulator. I know nothing of the MIT license it uses though, and whether or not this would be compatible with Retropie/RetroArch. It does seem though to have a fairly healthy dev community (as far as I can tell with these things), and looks quite promising.
Website here. What do you think?

my understanding is that emulation is quite preliminary in this core. not sure if works on arm/gles2 either.

I just heard about redream and I intsalled it on my desktop in linux, was the easiest emulator install I've ever done, just add rom directory when it prompts and everything works, didn't even need to add BIOS or setup controller.
I have a collection of games that I've tested in reicast and most run, but with pretty bad graphical glitches. and even controller glitches. reicast on rpi IMO is unusable.
Ran the same games in redream and every one ran smoothly and looked perfect.
I would love to try redream on the rpi, here are a couple links I found:
compile on rpi, going to give this a try when I have the time

and apparently there is a libretro core, how complicated is it to port the x86 core to arm?

@mud2005 Not going to happen for the Pi, requirements are -understandably - pretty high up:
Processor x86_64 compatible with AVX2 or SSE2 support
Memory 512 MB RAM
Graphics OpenGL 3.1 support, OpenGL 4.5 support for per-pixel polygon sortingJust like Reicast, there's no magic bullet - the emulation requirements are too high.

thanks for the reply, I'm going to look into a streaming solution then :)

FWIW, redream seems to work quite well in a RPi 4:

Marvel vs. Capcom 2: -
is it possible that in the future there will be an update to make redream work on pi3?
-
@daniel86 No, the Pi3 doesn't have the necessary hardware (GPU) to support it.
