I have a Pi 3b running Retropie 4.1 and had speed issues with snes9x2010 with almost all roms. Audio is choppy and gameplay is slower than normal. I have tried to rebuild from source but still the same issue. The issue is not present with other emulator like snes9x2002 or armsnes. The easiest way to check if loading chrono trigger ( which is a cartridge that doesn't use any extra chip ) and listen on how choppy the audio is on the intro.
as for the psu i both tried with my tv and a separate phone charger with the same result.
I used the prebuild image on the website + update all after installation.

@ayeye What are the output specs of the phone charger. Sounds like neither PSU is sufficient. Did you read the information regarding PSU here - https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first ?

(you are providing little information to go on - it looks as though you didn't read the link above as I requested in the other thread).

@ayeye neither one of those are enough to power a pi 3. You need a 5v 2.5a power supply. And phone chargers dont work even if they are that same voltage and amperage because they fluxuate the power. Buy a power supply made for the pi 3

First off, definitely get a proper power supply and make sure that's not the issue you're having.

Second, Snes9x 2010 is simply more accurate and slower on some games. The framerate will sometimes not reflect the slowdown, but slightly choppy music will let you know it's not playing full speed. It's definitely not every game though.

Overclocking helps a good bit with s9x2010 but I just recommend using an earlier one if you have slowdowns.

              Hello,
I switched to a 2.0A genuine samsung power adapter. I still got the power icon on the screen but according to the specification it should be fine. Now snes9x2010 is not choppy anymore. However it a bit odd to me why snes9x2010 is so power demanding, I was emulating arcade machines with much higher speed and complex cpu without any slowdown. And since snes9x2003 looks much faster why is 9x2010 the default choice?

@ayeye if you get the power icon (which you never mentioned did you?), Your power is not good enough and you board will underclock.

Your comment is vague. Unless you understand the intricacies of emulation, you can't make a judgement like that. SNES is a complicated system to emulate accurately.

@ayeye sorry. Brain glitch. Ignore my edit (if you saw it). On RPI3 2010 snes9x is default for accuracy. (I wrote mame2003 - I have too many topics in brain)
