I believe that I asked previously a while ago about video support myself, but I also am willing to accept that it could come or not.
When it comes to doing a North American fork and Global fork I think that is a bit much personally.
My only reason to request video support is because of many friends/family that either don't know games by boxart because they are new to retrogames or because they just can't recall anymore what a game was by the boxart.

It's really easy to add video support to the theme for personal use, depending on how anal the person is it can be done in under 5 minutes.It's slightly more complicated to add the video preview on this theme due to the custom layout system I made. As I've said I will add video support but I can't say when exactly.

I completely understand that, I was just pointing out if it was such an important part to their experience it is as simple as adding the code.On the other hand it wouldn't look as nice as you doing all of the extra artwork to accommodate the video view.
I'm sorry if I rubbed you the wrong way with my post.

Not at all, your post was helpful. I just wanted to clarify as my theme setup is quite different to most themes so adding the video preview requires changes in several files. It's not difficult as such but it's not obvious where the changes would need to made.
When I do add the video view all I think I will do is replace the boxart with the video as I think that will work fine. -
@ruckage
Yeah, I went through your themes folders the other day. Didn't check the xmls but with just images your theme is on the more complex side.I'm very impressed with all the work you've put into it.
Currently there really isn't anything I'd change about it, except the same thing I've been harping about, lol.
Yet again thanks for all the time and work you've put in for the community with this.

for what its worth i love your theme without video, if it was me, i wouldn't spend the time to add it, i think the beauty of what you have created is suited for the boxart as you have it now! I know tons of people want video support on everything, but sometimes doing things the right way is more important than the popular way. That said, i fully expect that whatever you have in mind for video preview when the time comes will more than likely blow us all away and be just as beautiful as your current design.

I always think simple is better-there's a lot going on in your theme but it all works together really well-I don't think it needs anything else.
Had my Pi on yesterday, the more I see this theme, the more I love it.

I think my only request isn't a system request it's more of a request for the theme.Also it isn't an immediate thing, it's something that would ideally be started when the system requests are done.
I'd love to see instead of the nes system border, all of the systems have there own border (snes=snes, genesis=genesis).
I'm fairly sure I've discussed this with you before earlier on in the thread though.
This is exactly what I thought too. In fact I started to make some borders of a few choice systems for my own personal use, just to see how it changes the look of the overall theme.
I'd gladly show what I've done but I'm new here and don't quite understand the rules. I totally get it if @ruckage doesn't want people sharing work for something he has understandably worked so hard on.
Never the less the theme itself is awesome and thats the only little nitpick that i have to say about it.

@Jakezilla99
When in doubt just post a screenshot, that way instead of you distributing his theme or part of his theme you're just posting what amounts to a mock-up.These are my thoughts on the matter, not @ruckage 's or the community's.
This just seems like the most tactful handling of the matter.

Thanks. Video certainly isn't a priority for me but I do understand some people want it so I will add it in the future. The nice thing is you can easily switch views in ES now so it wouldn't change the look of the theme for those who didn't want it. It shouldn't be difficult to add and I will simply replace the boxart with a video in video view so the rest of the layout stays the same.@Jakezilla99 @Syhles
I think I said before hidden way up in the thread somewhere that I would like to make unique borders but it's something that I would definitely like to do myself as I've done everything else and it would definitely be once the majority of systems are supported. -
-
@ruckage
I'm fairly positive you and I had this discussion hidden up farther in the thread, lol.Sorry if I was stepping on your toes.
-
@ruckage
No problem man. I wasn't suggesting you or anyone else implement what I've done (my pixel work is amateur hour compared to the rest of this theme!) but rather that it gives a taste of what could be achieved. -
@Syhles @Jakezilla99
No toes trodden on :)
I would prefer not to be too influenced by other designs though if possible, I know the attract mode famicom theme was doing custom borders for each system and I've avoided looking there so I don't get influenced by their designs when I come to do the borders. Once they are finished it will be fun to see how my designs differ then (at least for me). -
@ruckage
This answer makes so much sense to me. As long as you're not deciding to not do something because someonedid something similar.I'm looking forward to how yours compares.
-
@ruckage
Completely understandable.When its done we'll compare!

@Syhles @Jakezilla99
It was similar case with the icons I made. They were inspired by a user on reddit: See Here
I really liked the concept but wanted to do my own interpretation in pixel art form. I only looked at them briefly and didn't use them as a reference while making mine but there were a few that must have really stuck because some of my icons ended up being very similar (some by coincidence, some by influence). -
@ruckage Friend could you add the MSX to the supported systems?

Hi. It's already on the to do list.

@ruckage
In the first post you were talking about adding variations to famicom mini theme are you meaning alternate layouts like you have in nes mini theme or something else? -

In the first post you were talking about adding variations to famicom mini theme are you meaning alternate layouts like you have in nes mini theme or something else?No. I want to keep the Famicom theme as a simpler version that has the same look for all systems. The variations I'm taking about are theme wide - you could call them skins I guess. So for example at the moment you can either have the famicom theme in 'Famicom' mode or 'Nes' mode by making a small change in the layout .xml file.
Here's a GIF to illustrate, it shows the Famicom theme in both Famicom mode and Nes mode:
To change the style you just need to open the layout.xml file. And find the following line:
<include>./style/famicom/style.xml</include>
Then simply change the word 'famicom' to 'nes'.
