Map keyboards key to joystick

I have an issue with daphne, my dragonrise (zerodelay) USB encoder doesn't work. I can't use left and right. I know there's an hw fix but that involves open the bartop, something I would like to avoid. Some one suggests to map a keyboard key to joystick left and right. But i don't know how to do IT. Any help?
