Atari ST - STX format support?
-
I'm trying to organize my Atari ST games, for use in Retropie. I understand Retropie uses Hatari for Atari ST. I have games in ST and STX format. From what I understand, STX was the format used to preserve protected games. Can anybody familiar with this system tell me if Hatari in Retropie can play these STX games, or should I not bother copying them over to the Retropie?
I know STX is listed as a supported format in the doc, but I'm wondering if I have games in both formats, would there be any reason to have both formats (ST/STX) on the Retropie? Does Retropie handle one format better than the other?

In my experience, both run with no problems.

Thank you for the reply. So then there's no point in keeping the same games in both .st and .stx formats on the Retropie? I may just sort through them then and keep the .st games as the primary collection, and only keep the .stx games where there is no .st version.
How do the harddisk versions fit in? I see several dozen games also come in a separate harddisk.zip folder, in addition to the .st or .stx versions. I'm guessing the Retropie doesn't play those harddisk versions? Can I play the .st or .stx versions of those games (are they standalone), or do they require the harddisk.zip folder to work also? For instance, the game "Asteroida" is in the .st format, but there's also Asteroida.zip, which contains "Harddisk.zip" and "Boot.st". Does that game require that harddisk zip to run, or can I run just the .st version? Because there's no point in copying some of these games over if they require those harddisk folders to run but Retropie can't handle them.

I have not yet installed any games that require hard disk files, but I looked at it briefly a while back and didn't see any reason why it wouldn't work in RetroPie. Somewhere down the road I'm sure I'll give it a try. If you happen to get it working in your own experimentation, I'd be interested to hear what you find out.

Interesting. I'm not really sure what to do with those hard disk folders. Do I even need to copy them over to Retropie or leave them out? I guess I'll need to experiment.

I guess I'll need to experiment.
Your best source of information on this will be on the actual Hatari information pages, as it's the same emulator running here. If you get it going, report back and either you or I can add it to the RetroPie wiki.
