lr-mame2003 automatically entering boot menu.

I am running a .78 ROM set in lr-mame2003 on a pi 3, and have encountered errors in both Battle Zone (bzone), Eliminator (elim2 and elim4)
and Disks of Tron (dotron) and their variants where the ROM will run, but the game will boot directly into the service menu and will not allow me to access the MAME menu. The only buttons that work are the exit hotkeys. Does anyone have any advice on how to fix this?
