      Hi,

I am searching for this Emulator layout or theme:

      0_1488890799015_Retropie snes.jpg

It shows some more details than the standard retropie emulation layout
I hope anyone could help me to get this layout? I have only this stupid normal Layout with a boring list....

      thank you guys!!

@Rocky2508 That looks like the "Simple" layout that used to come as the default EmulationStation theme. The default was changed to "Carbon" because "Simple" used large 1080p background images and the Raspberry Pi couldn't handle more than 10 systems, so it would whitescreen.

If you want more than just the basic list of games, you need to scrape the metadata.

Edit: You can see more about themes on the Wiki.

            @Rocky2508 A note about scraping:

There are lots of different ways to scrape metadata (metadata includes game images, description, number of players, developer, publisher, etc). They all have their own pros and cons. I'll mention the 3 main ones I know about.

            1- The In-built EmulationStation Scraper
It scrapes all the gamedata well enough, and the image will be the 2D Box Art of the game.

            Pros:

            • simple to do.

            Cons:

            • Can be slow (sometimes very slow).
            • you need to manually verify each game, as it has a tendency to choose the wrong one.

            2- The SSelph Scraper

            Pros:

            • Gives you more options than the inbuilt scraper.
            • generally faster than the inbuild scraper.
            • I think you can choose different images (you can get screenshots instead of boxart).

            Cons:

            • A little more confusing.

You can learn more about these 2 scraping methods here.

            3- The Universal XML Scraper
This one is the one I like to use. It's a separate Windows program that lets you create your own MIX images and gamelists, that you can then move over the Pi (I've heard you can also do it all on the Pi, but I haven't explored this). The image in your first post uses a MIX image with screenshot, 3D box-art and a logo.

            Pros:

            • Much more flexible
            • Out of the box it can make those 3-image MIX images
            • You can write your own MIX Profiles to create your own MIX images
            • You can write your own Scrape Profile to make specific gamelists
            • It can also scrape videos.

            Cons:

            • It's not as pick-up-and-play as the other options. It takes some time to get your head around how it works
            • It can take a while tinkering to get it how you want it (this could also be a Pro, depending on your personality and temperament).

You can learn more about UXS here and here.

              @mattrixk
was the whitescreen problem not fixed some time ago? That's what I thought when I asked which features the carousel mod contained. And it has the WSOD fix and video view.

@EctoOne Last I heard about the WSOD fix was that it was pretty much done, but still needed more testing. That was a while ago though, so it may have been added to RetroPie core already. You'd have to ask @fieldofcows or possibly @MWGemini.

As for the Carousel mod, I know Video Previews work with it, but I don't know if the WSOD fix is part of it. That's a question for @Zigurana. On a side note, he just put in a PR today to get it added. It's exciting.

@mattrixk you can just look at the code to know what's been added.

                  Eg: https://github.com/RetroPie/EmulationStation/commit/6872f472772f2d6a2ae5b3971a4434330b5b9ca3

I found ETA Prime at youtube. He's a Retropie master I think...

He has much more Videos...I learned enough :-)

@mattrixk @EctoOne As far as I know, the WSOD is fixed and is in the current source code for the official RP/ES build. I've been out of the loop here for the last 2 weeks or so, but it was fixed, tested, and merged into the master before that time, so unless it's been pulled out for some reason, the WSOD should be a thing of the past. I take no credit for it- that was entirely @fieldofcows work, I just helped with the testing of it.
