Another Famicom done. This time as I mentioned previously, no cutting, no grinding, no modifications to the body. It can be powered by 5V 1A, which means any microUSB phone charger should work just fine. I think that's pretty much it with Famicoms for now. I have now a genuine stock Famicom, one with RCA jacks coming out on the side and this one here.
-
@FlyingTomahawk That looks fantastic! It's rare to see a Famicom that isn't discolored over time. Great job on the AV and USB conversion.
-
i painted this one though. (shameonme)
I do have one still untouched and let's say white-ish and that one is unmodified and will stay that way. who knows how much that stuff is gonna be worth in another 20 years. -
@FlyingTomahawk I want to try this retrobright method some time. I need to find a source for those UV LEDs and how to power them.
-
Yeah, I'd love too. Maybe in the near future I'll start with some SNES modifications.
You could get UV light strips in China once the whole virus thing is gone. They sell them cheap over there. -
@FlyingTomahawk AliExpress is a great resource. I still don't understand how they can afford to ship me something all the way from China for $1.37, even if it does take a month, but I'm ok with it.
-
@obsidianspider I think it's subsidizes from the state, to stimulate the export. Their intl. mail is pretty much free, sending huge quantities in bulk on container ships. (but you probably knew this already π )
-
@obsidianspider Same thing with Futurelec. They will ship parts from Phuckett Tailand for less than within the U.S., but takes weeks.

@ClassicGMR Lucky! Let us know how you like it.
Well I like what I see so far! It was actually fun to put together and it feels like an accomplishment rather than just "unbox and turn on". I am still learning how this works because I only get RetroArch and I would really like to install stand alone emus like Stella for the 2600. They're a lot more current than the RA cores.
BUT... it works great! Screen is bright, buttons are decent, sounds good and with the wifi dongle copying games over is a breeze. :)
More later once I get the hang of it. :)

Also made some changes to the pal snes.Coming from a PAL territory, I can say that is the most glorious SNES in existence!

I guess I have a plague project. My Lynx screen from BennVenn arrived today from Australia! Now I just need to get one of my eBay Lynxes to workβ¦
-
@obsidianspider Hopefully you can get that to happen before the apocalypse!

found a new store today...
@obsidianspider you would love it there.
Good Game and Watch selection
And some expensive NeoGeo stuff. Those prices! uufff...
-
@FlyingTomahawk I'm in love. Oh my goodness I need to visit that place. That Light, and the pink Pocket that isn't discolored, and the BOXED Lights, and those MegaDrive games, and the Game & Watches, and Neo Geo games!!!!
Is that clear blue DMG a custom shell, or is that a Japan-only variant?
-
@FlyingTomahawk good lawd! That, is my heaven as well.
-
@FlyingTomahawk Awesome Game & Watch shelf! Which reminds me, I should continue hunting for a decent condition Oil Panic.

Found a new store in Nara! Name is "Kaihou Soko"
I knew the store name since I have been in other branches in Kashihara or Maibara. They have a really great selection on any game generation. From old to the latest.
They 're always cramped up with games. Look at the following shelf pics. I get all excited if I see things like that. Wish my house would have shelfs filled like that.
-
@FlyingTomahawk Holy crap! What a store! And those boxed Famicom games! The Marios look almost new! A whole shelf full of WonderSwan boxed games! Gah!

I have found a few really great Japanese sellers on eBay who I've purchased from many times with zero issues. There is one seller who I purchased from once, because the price was right, and there was an issue with shipping. Coming from Japan, I can certainly understand things can get knocked around, or delayed, but recently I bought Shanghai Pocket for WonderSwan from the same seller, because the price was great and based on the photos in the auction the box, etc. were all in great shape. When it arrived, not only was the box crushed due to poor packaging but there was also a tear/scratch on the front of the box that was not present in the auction photos. The pins on the cartridge are also super scratched up. After cleaning a few times with isopropyl alcohol it does play, but man. This is disappointing. The seller did agree to a 25% refund on the purchase price, but this is one seller I will not be buying from again, regardless of price.
Contributions to the project are always appreciated, so if you would like to support us with a donation you can do so here.
