RP 3.7 + Child Friendly ES Controller X-Y Toggle Buttons not holding.

pi3, SD Image, ES 3.7, 4.4 Kernel, PS3 Wireless, Carbon V4 Theme.
I've installed this awesome upgrade to ES and wow has it made things a lot easier, thank you so much to zigurana and those who have made this happen.
It is working perfectly and very stable for the exception of being able to use the X and Y controller buttons to toggle Fav and Kid. Just like it's shown in the video from the Git page if I remap my controller it works until I start and exit a game and or reboot.
Could this be a permissions issue with whatever file is accessing the controller config?
