MAME ROW Rules and List Of Rounds
-
It's a fun way to discover games, not a high-stake tournament with Guiness Book records... I'm not sure anybody cares enough to prevent you from using FBA, or save state, or input record, or simply just infinite credits. But that would be a lot of trouble for basically nothing.
-
@cosmo0 I agree with the "fun way to discover games" comment. I'm personally not looking for bragging rights here, but some may. If people want to upload .INP files that's fine with me. I have no trouble sleeping at night being seen as a MAME scrub. XD
-
@IanDaemon It seems you are targeting to me with scrub and bragging, because I asked for input files. My request for them was 9 month ago, when I was new to RetroPie. I misinterpreted it as some sort of competition and didn't realize it was about "fun and discovery" only. So, it is fine with me how it is now.
-
@thelostsoul No, no offence intended. I wasn't targeting anyone. I was saying that I'm fine with being at the bottom of the list. That's fine with me. I'm doing it for fun and discovery because I know I'm not great at all these games. I didn't mean to imply anything.
-
@IanDaemon Yeah sorry, I feel offended (happens too fast with me...). I take it back. Hopefully we can live in a civilized manner.

@thelostsoul In un-related news last night I started pulling all of my NeoGeo games out of my Arcade folder...for no reason...they worked in that folder anyway. BUT I figure "hey why not", now I have another system listed in EmulationStation. [shrug]
-
@IanDaemon If the games are using same emulator, then there is no reason why they shouldn't work. If you are interested in this topic, I can recommend you to read my thread. There is more than just copying the games, in example putting the games into console mode. And not all games for Neo Geo was officially licensed on the Neo Geo console: https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/19976/why-separate-neo-geo-system-from-arcade
-
And now I put them back.

Here is a first version of a script/program to scrape the MAME ROW pages and to create a database out of it. It reads each page and tries to get the game information, including the romname. It generates a .json file which can be used in a variety of other ways. Also a .txt file is created alongside it too, which contains all roms and bios files. If input and output file are set to same (default), then only new games will be added. Unfortunately the script still downloads each page to analyze it.
The script in Python format is itself very rough and not finished, no comments. I may eventually work on it. Game page 1 and 52 are not formatted like the other pages and therefore missing the game data. Game page 139 is the only one not using a relative url. All in all, I had fun creating this and it is a proof of concept.
You don't need to use the script, if you are interested in the database files. Just download the files instead.

Hey there,
Just turned up here, am a newbie at MAME RoW. If it is Random of the Week... why is the last post in December? Is it even still running? Or is the MAME RoW community just small?
I'm a newbie, and sorry if you are offended.

@w1-1master There has been a bit of a hiatus.
-
@W1-1Master The regular contributors seem to be busy at the moment. Hopefully everyone is in good health. Feel free to contribute your scores and chat about the games!
-
@iandaemon Well, I need to test out my new Switch-alike Pi4 before I do a final commit to a case, so prepare for more necroposting of insane scores on games that didn't even win the vote...
Contributions to the project are always appreciated, so if you would like to support us with a donation you can do so here.
