Activating Video Previews ?
-
I've seen some chat about video previews as a new feature of 4.2. I've had a look at the wiki and it says that the Carbon skin supports video previews. I've had a little look around but can't quite seem how to activate these video previews?
I'm sure I'm being very simple but can anyone at least point me in the right direction please? :) -
@sphirst It's already active. You need to download the video snaps then manually set the path in the
gameslist.xml
by adding<video>/home/pi/.emulationstation/video/nes/test.mp4</video>
or add it through theEdit Metadata
option in the ES menu. emumovies.com has everything you would need but you need to register a free account first. Store the video snaps somewhere like/home/pi/.emulationstation/video/nes/

I've seen something like this too, but with a theme called OldRoom. How big are these videos?

Great stuff! Thanks for this!!
Noob question I'm sure but you can point me in the right direction of where the gameslist.xml is located?
Also...any ideas on a quick way to edit all the games at once rather than having to do each video path individually? -
@sphirst nevermind...found the location of the gameslist.xml files...
Just wondering whether there's a quick and painless way to do this? -
@sphirst Universal XML scraper might support it and scrape videos too. Not sure, I haven't used it for this or even set the video previews up. Let me know how you get on!

thanks again @AlexMurphy ! Really appreciate it :)

@sphirst Something in here and the contained links may help if you run into issues, https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/9050/carbon-theme-updated-with-video-view/4
-
@sphirst carbon video view was added after the image release so you'll have to update your setup script and theme before it will be enabled.
-
thanks @herb_fargus - I updated to 4.2 and reinstalled carbon and tested it out with a few games and they do indeed work. The videos look a little out of place and I'd like some box art so am going to with the CRT theme I saw on the development forum (hence my other question in this help file).
Had a little tinker last night @AlexMurphy and got vids working for some by editing the .xml files manually. Going to have a bigger play around today so will let you know.

@AlexMurphy also the websites you provided were great - really appreciate those, such a wealth of goodies!

I remember getting a bit longer bootup time after I scraped all my roms, I suspect this extra time would radically increase if all games have video previews?
