          hi, sorry
its a pi 3 with the retropie 3.7 sd image. i've done nothing else to it apart from add roms.
I have no cavestory directory in ports - i assumed that because its in the menu that it would work.
Does this mean i actually have to get the cavestory files themselves and put them in a cavestory directory in ports?
there is a cavestory.sh file there but nothing else,

thanks, sorry if its a stupid question i'm still new to all this!

You didn't read the link @herb_fargus posted.

            https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/CaveStory

It has all the instructions you need including making the folder. You need to locate the original game datafiles yourself.

I was having the same issue. For the life of me I couldn't get CaveStory to show up in the Ports list. The wiki is very vague. What they fail to mention is other than just plopping the "CaveStory" folder in the "/roms/ports/" folder is that you have to go into the Optional Packages part of RetroPie Setup and install the NXEEngine. Then it should show up in Ports.

@lordcrammy the fact you have to install optional packages is explained in the main retropie-setup install instructions.
