Pi in a Dreamcast VMU Build - WIP
-
@obsidianspider i'm following this as I'm a big fan of the DC system and would love to see you put your magic to it. I have 2 spare VMU's from my DC i can donate if you need.
-
@celly Thanks for that, but I don't think I'll need to cut up yours. I ordered two blue ones for $6 each on eBay and they should be here by Saturday. I would have loved to have found a white one for cheap, but those are selling for a lot more, and most don't have the dust caps.
As an example, here's one for $15 but I really don't want to spend that much for something so tiny just to cut up.
-
Yeah there seem to be an abundance of the translucent blue, green and a couple of other colours all BNIB doing the bay at the moment.
-
@ABrugsch I have to wonder where they're all coming from since the Dreamcast was only produced until 2001. The ones I ordered are theoretically brand new in the box.
-
@obsidianspider maybe they made way more than they needed. Or maybe we invent a time machine in the not too distant future, and go back and tell them to make more, so there are plenty left for pi related shenanigans
-
@moosepr The things I could do with a time machine...
-
-
@obsidianspider No, I already got a list.
-
Buy brand new copies of rare games, (Earthbound, Panic Restaurant, Stadium Events, etc.) and sell them in the present day for a shitload of money
-
Go back and stop my dad from falling and crushing his arm.
-
Find out who let the dogs out
-
-
@obsidianspider ok man, offer still stands. I found 2 loose ones. 1 with the cover and one without.
check it -
@celly Oh wow, those are in really good shape too. I would feel bad not paying anything for them. What's the best way to message you, since the forum doesn't allow private messaging?
-
@obsidianspider Um, on the GameEx site, same user name. Send me a pm over there and we can figure something out.
-
-
Thanks to @celly I now have some really nice white VMUs coming my way.
The plan now is to figure out how to do this with one of the blue ones, then do it "for real' with a white one.
-
@obsidianspider the white ones do have the Best look! I don't have the flair/time/patience for case modding though. Still have a GBA shell stripped and ready for the slaughter
-
So i got the big parts stripped off that charge board, replaced the big inductor with a more expensive, flatter wurth one. Since i was doing other stuff as well at the hackspace tonight (making up some DMG bivert boards) I didn't manage any testing :(
Someone also sprung a free DS and DSi on me... :D
Along with some really legit looking bootleg GBA pokemon carts. -
i was messing in my parts bin and found a few of these
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/371440045594
the pcb at the end is actually really small. couldnt pry it out of the plastic while i was looking, but desolder the battery terminals and the usb socket, and it looks to be quite tiny!!
-
@moosepr I think my board is actually meant for something just like that. this was linked at the bottom of that item:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2600mAh-Battery-USB-Case-Kit-HOT-Bank-18650-DIY-Power-Box-For-All-Phone-Charger/291950546291 -
here's the reduced size charge/boost board:
removed the USB socket and flashlight switch, swapped the tall inductor for a flat Wurth one
-
@ABrugsch whats this? a boost board for ants?
what does the button on there actually do?
-
@moosepr as far as i can tell, the switch JUST activates the flashlight LED (the big through hole one) so it's coming off. if it does anything else, I can always wire on a remote one. there are 2 0402 SMD LED's underneath it for status (so far just flash alternating red and blue with no battery attached)
