Thanks for pointing that out! I'll be sure to update the written rules for next week. It's been "known" for a while, but we can't assume everyone has been involved each week.

This isn't a strict rule, but the number of groupies screaming your name and throwing their panties at you decreases if you use more than one credit.
There's no problem at all in using several credits, but you need to mention it. The "issue" here is that Captain Commando keeps your score after a continue, but this doesn't happen in every game (fortunately).
@obsidianspider if you'll write something about that in the "rules", I think it should be something like this:
We usually post hi-scores screenshots after playing with only one credit. If you used more than one credit, please mention it on your post.

@meleu Done! (Please don't throw your panties at me)

I read in the rules that if it's more than 5 credits it's actually just an old person throwing dirty underwear at you.
Anyway, I might end up trying this one out this week. :) Fingers crossed!

@backstander I assure you, it's unfortunately no fantasie.

Like @BGallagherLA I decided to award myself unlimited credits to play this game through to the end.
I especially liked the end of level boss DOPPEL - nice idea!
Reminded me very much of Streets of Rage 2 on the Megadrive/Genesis. a very enjoyable game, but pretty difficult.
Like all these games it suffers a bit from having nothing really new after the first few levels, apart from the bosses. Which makes sense, there's no point in having lots of new enemies/weapons later on when the majority of players in the arcade won't ever see them.
My high score on unlimited credits? A whopping 171,451!
I'll try and get a single credit score at some point over the weekend.
-
I've played with one credit. I really like the Captain flame thrower (dash-jump-atack), but I play better with the Mummy. Reached the boss at level 2 and game over. I can't renember the score but I've got the 46th place on the ranking (really suck, huh?).
BTW: I think that the Baby and Mummy characters were created with an intentional pun in mind. What do you guys think?
-
For games like this, there could be an interesting wrinkle. Maybe we could see who can actually beat the game on "unlimited credits," BUT have them keep track of how many credits they use, and maybe combine with high score? Not all games are like this, as meleu pointed out, that let you keep your score after continues. Maybe lowest amount of credits and highest score wins the most groupies? Hahaha
-
@BGallagherLA Or maybe something in between? I remember going to the arcade with a set amount of funds, and I could only accomplish as much in whatever game according to how much I had on me. One credit seems kinda limiting to me, especially since none of us are pro gamers (I don't think...). For games like this, where you can literally beat the game if you have enough "money," maybe up it to like 10 credits? 15? What do you all think?
-
Just beat the game, with only 8 credits.

@BGallagherLA it's a minefield! As mentioned there are games that keep the score in continues and there are games that reset the score to 0. Also I know a personal favourite of mine, Robocop, does reset the score to 0, but the points available on later levels massively outweigh those from earlier ones. It's possible to reset the score on the last level of Robocop with a continue, and still top the high score table with about 2 minutes play!
Not that this means we shouldn't play the interesting ones through to the end though, for me the MAME ROW is more about trying out undiscovered classics than actually being any good at playing them!

@GtBFilms Intriguing.

MAME ROW #28 is live!

cap'n commando. still a classic.
