Not that I'm complaining, my wife is actually playing video games with me, but it's been almost 3 months now of nothing but Dr. Mario EVERY NIGHT. She won't give anything else a try.

...Over a thousand games... and all I play... is Dr. Mario!

FEVER MUSIC RUNS THROUGH MY HEAD CONSTANTLY!!!

Anyone got any good suggestions for wife friendly games that i can gradually move her onto so i can break free of dropping pills for an hour every night (that sounded wrong).

@Capeman Mario Kart 64 is always fun. Especially Vs or Battle mode.

@Capeman Bubble Bobble is great for some 2 player action. You are cooperating but also competing for points. Mame or Sega MS are the best versions I have played.

@Gosenbach Ha yeah! The best bit is when the other player transforms back to a human and you eat them!

Who do you guys pick to play as in 'Rampage'? I'm a Ralph man myself.

@Capeman If you usually receive guests in your home and they like to play videogames, I suggest Super Bomberman 5. You can play 2 vs 2 and it's very funny (the fun increases in proportion to the beer's quality). Out of modesty, my wife and I are a tough couple! :-)

I think the wives like to play in cooperation with their respective husbands. ;-)

Funny you should say that, because when i asked if she wanted to play something different, she said "Lets play some of those shooting games" ... to which I gleefully replied, "OH YOU MEAN LIKE CONTRA?!" ... to which she shattered my dreams by saying "No, like call of duty, me and an ex used to play that back in college" ...

So ya, all i have is a PS2 and Wii-U... haha, womp womp.

I'm not married myself, but a friend of mine's wife pretty much only plays 'Dr. Mario' as well. The only other game she'll play is 'Snake Rattle 'n' Roll', so maybe that's worth a look. It's also one of the all-to-few NES titles to have cooperative multiplayer, so it'd be an interesting change-up in that regard as well.

Personally, I could play the NES 'Dr. Mario' until my hands bled. I've played it so much over the years that I can set it to level 20 on 'Hi' and play until I'm ready to move on to something else. The SNES version is a whole other story. It has an impressive computer AI to play against that, at it's highest level, makes it necessary to play a perfectly measured game of killing at least one virus, while also dropping some garbage on his side to impede him with each pill you get. It's quite a challenge.

The one I'd recommend that a (female) friend of mine used to play was Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine on Genesis... It's similar to Dr. Mario save for being in Sonic's world...

Of course, my wife doesn't play games pretty much at all. Boggle on her iPhone, or maybe tetris once in a grand while, but that's about it for her. Be glad your wife plays games with you at all! ;)

My wife is the same way. Every once and awhile I can get her to play Mario Kart 64 and one time she played DiRT 3 (using Moonlight) but she was too frustrated that she kept coming in last. I tried to get her to play Bomberman with me but she didn't want to. I bet she would like it if she gave it a chance. Oh yeah, another time we play split screen Gameboy Tetris on the RPi with my family over at my dad's house.

Being GameBoy, how are you doing that? Is there some sort of link cable support in one of the emulators?

I used the TGB Dual - Gameboy (Color) Emulator. I think that emulator is now officially in RetroPie but here's a video of it:

Yeah here's the changelog when TGB Dual officially became not experimental in RetroPie:

'Dr Roboniks' Mean Bean Machine' (Megadrive, Master System and Gamegear) should fit the bill; it's essentially the same game (a better version of this game is, iMO 'super foul egg' on the Amiga), similarly Super Puzzle Fighter (MAME, NeoGeo & possibly other formats) may allow you to gently sway her toward games you prefer playing, though it may take a while. In the meantime enjoy playing together!

Is this turning into "games for gals" thread then...? I have the opposite problem, my GF is too busy with her Steam account to bother playing retro stuff with me. She likes the 8-bit aesthetic but just seems to prefer modern (i.e. easy) games. How many games today give you one life and no health bar?!!! WE do have the odd game of MarioKart64 and she usually leaves me eating her dust.

Lack of variety aside, you can't accuse her of bad taste. Tengen Tetris is somewhat unknown to most people. Did she play it growing up, or did she discover it on RetroPie?
